Mytee HP100 hot water extractor REVIEW

Hey guys,

Well after doing some reading and research on what extractor to get, it sure wasn't too hard to decide that the HP100 was going to be the best bet to go with. Well here's how its goes:

Ordered from: AUTOGEEK

Employee: Penny (Good customer service and very kind)

Order Date: 8/3/2010 (from Florida)

Date Received: 8/12/2010 (to Blaine WA)

Price: $1,395.99 + $125 (Commercial shipping) - When I originally called I asked if they would be able to compete with another price which was $1,219.95 from: Hot Water Carpet Extractors | Mytee HP100 - The answer unfortunately was "no". I was surprised at first when I heard that but I took a look at the website and even though in the huge heading banner Autogeek has that reads: "Autogeek.net" and just below that: "WE WILL MEET OR BEAT ANYONE'S PRICES" they have a separate tab on the main site that reads "price match" - you click that, scroll down and you'll find the not so small print that reads: "Price matching applies to in stock items (excludes custom and drop-shipped items, such as garage flooring, air compressors, and extractors). HA! oh well too bad. But after all I still decided to go with AUTOGEEK due the fact they are a large reputable company and I'm sure and hope so! if there are any problems and as far as customer service goes they will take care of me. Just for that fact in my opinion its worth spending the extra money.

Packaging: Just a box with the machine inside, no extra protection provided for shipping. (not a big deal)

After getting the machine out I examined all the accessories (nozzle, hose ect.) After that I immediately assembled the racks for the hoses and power cord onto the machine.

and filled her up with some hot water to try it out for some testing.

After filling it up with water (no solution) I right away noticed that when you shut the solution tanks lid it doesn't fully close. Its nothing crucial but a little bit more attention to detail would be nice.

IMG_2467.jpg

Notice how the lid doesn't exactly fit nicely as there's a huge gap on the side. To me it looks cheap and unprofessional especially when you spend this much money.

Now it was time to find myself a victim piece of floor mat carpet that's been neglected and abused to test the machine out on.

Method of cleaning:

1. Pre-soak

2. Agitate

3. Hot water extract with the Mytee HP100

Results: I was very happy and satisfied with the outcome especially for a grey carpet!

So after going about cleaning the carpet with that method I figured I would give it a shot with only using the Mytee HP100 hot water extractor and NO solution and or agitation.

The results: POOR cant really say it did much, the pictures speak for themselves. I don't believe you can get a carpet clean without pre-treating it and agitating prior to the hot water extraction.

The only one thing that I'm concerned about regarding the Mytee HP100 is that when you depress the trigger to release the liquid/solution it seems to pulsate and not provide a steady high pressure stream of liquid/solution. But with me not ever using this machine I'm not exactly sure if it supposed to provide a high pressuresteady stream of liquid?

I sent an E-mail to Mytee regarding this early Friday morning and haven't received anything back. I also provided them with a Video I took: YouTube - Mytee HP100 Pulsating problem

I was hoping possibly one of you guys would know whats going on with the machine and would be able to tell me if this is normal or not. Maybe a bad Sprayer or pump? Also - The water that comes out of the sprayer, Is it supposed to be high pressure like for example a pressure washer? (I understand of course it wouldn't be as high pressure but theoretically the sample idea?) In the specification they say "Pump: 100 PSI" that's meaning the pressure coming out of the nozzle, Correct?

I'll be sure to post more regarding my review on the Mytee HP100 hot water extractor.

Thanks for reading!

Your pulsating problem is normal. It's because the pump was dry (from the machine being brand new). Make sure the solution tank is full, and hold the trigger down for about 2 solid minutes. Give it a 1 minute break, and repeat. At some point throughout the process (depending how much air lock you have), the spray will become steady and non-pulsy. Don't worry about it, it happens everytime my employees run the solution tank dry and suck in some air.

Thanks for the review ! I wonder if something happened to your solution tank lid ? To me, it looks like it melted and deformed somehow ? My Mytee Lite II has perfect fitment, this just doesn't seem to add up.

sooo... i don't really get the point of the extractor then? looks like a wetvac and some elbow grease is everything

A huge factor is the shampoo used. There are literally hundreds of different brands and formulations (some enviro-friendly, some acidic, some basic, etc). Also, there's the human factor of dilution, how much shampoo is going into the extractor vs how much straight water. I'm sure the OP will get much better results without pre-agitaton if he experiments a bit. Our carpet extractor gets out a LOT of soiling without any pre-agitation or pre-cleaner of any sorts. However, it also took me many vehicles to figure out the right combination of shampoo, and shampoo dilution.

He just needs some time to learn it. I rarely have to agitate and i get better results. Its all in the combo. Try some cleaner in the solution tank. Just make sure you get some defoamer too.

I'm jus about at that point where i think i have my detail regiment/arsenal down...and now that they're saying there's like a million ways go go about just the products for the extractor i feel like i'm in an abyss again

Well, what extractor did you buy ? Start with that and maybe we can recommend you some products to try out that have worked well for us :)

haven't bought one yet--but was going to start looking into extractor/steam cleaner/air compressor stuffs..lol back to being overwhelmed--but it's ok...I don't mind sorting through all the past posts and asking later...it's kind of a therapy for me

Looks like a nice machine. Have you had any problems blowing breakers if you are running the pump, vacs, and heater all at once? Being mobile I have always been hesitant to get a bigger machine like that because I have heard that it overloads circuits easily.

I've used (and own) many different extractors. While I don't have the HP100, I do have the HP60 and Lite II from Mytee, as well as a Durrmaid and the good old LGM. I've had all 3 elements running (vacuum, heater and pump) on all machines and never had an issue with blowing breakers. My shop has standard 15 amp breakers (so ~12 amp draw before tripping). There are extractors out there (US Products makes one) that have a two-stage vacuum motor. Those extractors WILL trip a standard 15 amp breaker, but they come with 2 electrical cords to be plugged into separate circuits, just for this reason.

I'm currently gaining "experience" for detailing at a dealership. (More like perfecting my own habits and getting paid while in college, looking into starting my own business for detailing) I always try to keep my standards at the autopia level, and they notice.

They have the exact same extractor, I've blown the breakers a couple of times using it. Luckily it's all in the mechanics/wash bay and easy to turn back on.
