My Year / Detailing Career in Review

I started experimenting and detailing of personal vehicles about a year ago. After my birthday and October of 2009 I bought a polisher, polishes, pads, and everything else I thought I needed to detail my personal vehicles. I spend my free time trying to figure out what products were going to work the best for me and what the best methods were through hours of research. Obviously the only way to know is to try out products for myself, but since I began with nothing, I wanted to start out on the right foot. I am still a full time student and have another job, but I really like detailing and thought I could help other people by detailing their vehicles in my free time. This thread includes the few details I did this year as well as some pictures from each.

I started with testing Optimum products on my bosses car, and posted this thread
Optimum Product Review I found Optimum to have great products for the beginning detailer. OOS, OCW, and ONR were incredibly easy to use and worked great.

When the weather warmed up, I began to try out a few LSPs that I had. I was going to do my first paint correction and wanted to know what looked good, what lasted, etc. I tried out the products I had. I have only added Collinite 915 to my waxes since then. Personal LSP testing! [845, 476, OOS, OCW, WDGPS3.0]

This was my first true paint correction. There is more of a story in the thread, but this was the first time I had polished an entire vehicles and actually managed to remove all of the removable defects. 2005 Dodge Magnum RT: My First Paint Correction [Picture Overkill]

This was a really fun correction. It took a lot of time as I am still learning, but I was very satisfied with the results. 1967 Plymouth Satellite Paint Correction

Both of these vehicles were sent to me to be washed and waxed. The Sierra got an interior overhaul as well. GMC Sierra and Chevy Yukon XL

I finally got a chance to work on single stage paint on this project. It was a lot of fun to work on and a great experience.

Not pictured in any threads was a very quick job I did for a friend of my dads. He is selling his van and wanted to make it ?more? sellable. It was a mess, but I think my efforts helped.

So what?s next? I have another vehicle I am working on in the garage, and should have a few more in the coming months. I am in my final semester at college, will be working at an internship for 20 hours a week, and working another job, so spending time working on cars may have to take a back seat.

I am very thankful for all of you guys as I have learned everything I know from people like yourselves. For still being in my rookie year so to speak, I am hoping to keep improving my techniques and attitude along the way to better myself as a detailer and as a person.

Happy 2011 Everyone!

Luke - very nice review this past year. You have come quite quite far in these last few details

Now, that van was trashed in spots :cursing:

Wonderful year in review. Nice collection of detailed vehicles, which is definitely a good start. I agree that there is much to be learned in this field. Good Luck next year.:)

Luke,
I really enjoyed this post. I remember each one of these details that you did this year, and as Harry already stated, you really have come a long way, in a short amount of time. I would love to see how good you could be if you did this full time.
I hope 2011 is even better for you.:hurray:

Thank you Harry! Yes, that van was a mess, but given a few hours it was made a little less messy :Dancing Dot:

Thank you Barry! I would love to do more this year, but I think I will limit myself to what I can handle on top of the rest of what life throws at me.
