my poorboys review

well first let me say this. im not bashing the company, their customer service is great but their products just aren't for me. with that being said.

i started my black g6 with Meguiar's 105 and a wool cutting pad....looked incredible. followed with SSR2.5 and an orange light cutting pad...marred the heck out of the paint, scratches and holograms like you wouldn't believe.

so. i switched to SSR1 and a white foam pad thinking that was just to strong...got the marring out but still had holograms from HE double hockey sticks. at this point i tried using SSR1 with my wool pad thinking it was the pads...nope. now im thinking its just because its a black car so i grab my black hole and use it by hand and i do half my hood with it and half with turtle wax black box....TW filled a lot more. i have tried both SSR1 and 2.5 on red vehicles as well, same issues. today i used just SSR1 on a red kia with a red pad....hologram....did the hood with megs 105 and very very light holograms....not sure what im doing wrong and why its only poor boys world products i am having issues with and like i said im not bashing them in anyway im telling my experience. also. i use a dewalt rotary

now. nattys red. gives a nice slick feel but after driving 200 miles in the rain it was just about wore off. and yes i clayed the paint first. after about a week it would no longer bead up.

nattys blue...doesn't hide very many scratches however they do not claim that it does, nice slick feel,. very shiny and seems to last longer then the red. going on 2 weeks and its still beading.

all the products smell very nice :)

now please don't bash me and tell me i don't no what im doing or this that or the other because i do no what im doing and i don't have these problems with meguires, pro, or auto magic. im simply writing my review based on my experience.

No bashing here, it is what it is and I have no reason to doubt your results. I use these polishes and a broad variety of others as well (I have yet to use BH). I haven't had the issues you've mentioned. I will say that the working time with the SSR polish line seems to be a bit less than some of the other comparable products I use. That said, knowing this allows me to make the appropriate adjustments in my process.

On the whole I've had good results with PoorBoys products. I would further say that I could end up with pleasing results using their line exclusively (I don't but I could). It is a great thing to have so many good products readily available.

hmmmmm..... Never had any of those issues with there polishes????? I use them ALOT on black cars as well. The way that I use them is to do very small sections at a time. For instance, if you are doing your hood, I would break the hood down into 5-6 sections at a time. I only prime the pad with the product and nothing else. Also I work the product in until you see it almost dissapear but not completly. Hope this helps.

Why would you go from one heavy cut compound to another heavy cut compound right after it? That makes zero sense to me. By your own words you are leaving holograms on every surface regardless of what product you use. I'd say your rotary skills are in need of an update or you desperately need new pads. I'm not bashing one bit but your product choices make little sense in the order you used them.

2.5 is less agressive then megs 105, i used it in place of megs 205. the pads are brand new. the 2.5 is clearly way more heavy then the megs even tho its listed as medium and i will never say its not my process. by all means i dont think iv seen a poor review on them. im not the best buffer in the world but im hands down not the worst. i come highly recomended by every dealership in my town. they call me when there best guys screw up not that my town is huge, about 60k ppl but just showing im not a noob. in fact, i had posted befor asking what i could do wrong to cuase these problems. it really is just me. i just dont no why i can create a great finish with a heavy cut like megs 105 but yet use a polish and eff it all up. im open to suggestions by all means. what pads do you guys use with each step? that could be my problem, like i said. i really dont no.

SSR 2.5 is a helluva lot more aggressive than Meg's 205. Not sure why anyone using 105/Ultimate Compound wouldn't just follow up with the 205 to begin with, but that's just me. That's about the best 1-2 punch polish combo I've ever used (the 105 / 205 combo).

I personally use a purple foamed wool pad for heavy correction. Just about anything else I use a polish pad and let the compound do the work. I can't remember the last time I used a foam pad that was any more aggressive than a polish pad.

I'm not sure when you got your Poorboys but there is older stuff VS newer stuff and there is a difference. I never liked the old Poorboys but he redid them and they finish out nice. This maybe part of the problem.

I've found you really need to work small and finish clear.. also do not use too much

Less is really more... I would ask you to try again with a clean pad and put a thin circle on and work it in slow and ramp up the speed work it in and when you think your done work it in a little longer you should almost nothing to wipe off of your car just a very slight haze...

You can have the greatest polishes and the most advanced pads on the market, but if your technique isn't there, you will not get the results. What type of polisher were you using? How much experience do you have? What other products have you had good results with?

I've had great luck with Natty's Red durability on my daily driver. You mentioned you clayed, but did you also polish or use a cleaner prior to applying the wax? I've gotten a solid 2 months out of Natty's Red, and that's with a car that sits outside 24/7.

i have never liked there products never lived up to there hype used them on a car we did for a national company Red Paint (hot rod mag cover car) i have a ASE Master in body so by far not new to buffing i used different pad combos really wanted it to live up to all the hype but did not so long story short i used 3m and the car was slick

i have a ASE Master in body

Not necessarily directed at you, just at the comment, but some of the biggest hacks I know are body shop guys. :)

I know some certified accountants and computer folks (programmers, etc) that I wouldn't want to do my taxes or work on my network too.

I once dropped one of my older foxbody mustangs off to get my "saleen" wing painted and installed from a reputable body shop. They decided to wash and machine wax the car for me because they know that I am into detailing, and they swirled the HECK out of my car. I was soo pissed!

To each his own I say. I love their products, but that doesn't mean they are for everyone. That's why we have such great choices available to us at Autopia!

:autopia:

This really puzzles me because Ive always had outstanding results from the SSRs with both a DA and a rotary. Maybe Steve or Pockets will chime in and offer you some advise. Something went wrong for sure.

I use the whole SSR line and have almost exclusively for two years. I've had terrific results. I'm no detailing god, but one of my show car clients was invited by Disney to bring a couple of his '50's beauties to Orlando last month for the premier of "Cars 2". So, I'm thinking that I can at least hang with the big boys.

One thing about technique.... I know that I cannot finish with my Makita, so I don't. The Flex DA does a beautiful job for me. I find that I never use a rotary on a regular client, just the DA. For a "rehab," sure, I call in the artillery.

Just some thoughts from a recovering hack.

p.s. As we say down South, don't ya'll be trash talkin' my Natty's! lol!

My suggestion is to use softer pads and work longer. Use the 2.5 with a white polishing pad and use the SSR1 with a black finessing pad. Let the product do the work not the pad (that's what is marring your finish) :bigups

Edit: Working time is your key I think here you are not properly braking down the polish.

I have used SSR2 and SSR1 for a long time with a DA and Rotary. You need to work the products till they are completely broekn down. After the wool pad and rotarty I would of used m105 again on a ordange pad with DA then finished with SSR1 with a white pad then coat with Natty's
