The car looks pretty good right now.
No disrespect, but just what are you planning to improve on? :D
the photo is a bit decieving, Though the car is in pretty good shape there is room for improvement in all areas. I will be posting pics. This guy is a nut when he drives this car, He took me up a mountain at 135 MPH in this car, scared the bajesus out of me. It sits in the garage most of the time and is a bit dusty both inside and out, the chrome needs attention, wheels are dirty, interior vinyl is intact but will be much improved. I'm thinking of using something like PWS with polish pads on the paint, leather stuff on the interior and something mild in the engine bay followed by some sort of water based dressing. No disrespect taken but I could use a suggestion for the water based dressing. My main goal is to improve apon the owners mood when the job is finished, he is insintant apon me "working my magic" on the car as he puts it. Thanks for any and all suggestions, This is my first time working with single stage paint so I'm not sure if PWS is the right choice? I would like to improve apon my knowlege a bit before putting my hands on this car, TD

:dcrules You are right, this guy is a nut. Anyone who would risk my life by going 135 mph on hills is a complete idiot.(I may have punched him in face) at very least I would have told him what a dumba** he is.(Tha only places you find FLASH driving 135m.p.h. will be on dragstrip w/no passengers) You state car is always garaged. Garaged cars frequently = dry rotted tires. dry rotted tires = blowout. Blowout in curves @135MPH=DEATH. DEATH=BYE BYE FAMILY,HELLO GOD/SATAN"WHICH EVER YOU PREFER" Dave, I have confidence in your abilitys that you will do just fine w/what you already know. Now this doesn,t mean THIS A-HOLE WANT COMPLAIN(sounds like a drunken blowhard) Myself, I,m leary of people who want me to work magic.I,m no magican just a dedicated detailer who gives 110% on every car.:dcrules GOOD LUCK!!!

Tht or pro polish to not remove to much paint. Followed with some sealant or nattys. Just my idea, as it may not be the correct one. (my 88 f150 has single stage and ive used way to harsh of polishes on it in the past and removed lots of paint at the time.)

yes , PwS, PwC, or PP for the paint cleaning, then BH and finish with either EX-P and or NB ...

as for the engine compartment ..use Bold N Bright either full strength or diluted:cool:

I've done paint correction on a lot of Stingrays.......

C-3 Corvettes have a lot of very "sharp" corners, seams, fender-tops, spoiler, etc.

Especially for original (40-year-old) paint, be VERY careful around those high spots.

If you're using a rotary you might want to tape off the ridges and do them with a PC afterwards.

Also, if it's original paint, it is single-stage paint and it won't ever shine like base-clear.

One other tip... The crossed-flags on the gas lid come off very easliy by two nuts on the bottom side, making it very easy to polish that area.

Ok after a dozen or so re schedulings, today is the day that I get to experience polishing 40 year old corvette paint on this one, over the past year or so I have gotten a lot of great suggestions from a lot of you and a big thank you is in order here. The origonal owner of this car had passed away (Doc) and his son now owns the car. In my oppinion there is no better way to bond with a good friend as detailing a car together as Adam (Doc's son) wants to be fully involved in doing this detail. Nice to have a helper too. I will be posting pics later.

I always use Megs # 80 on single stage paint that is what it was formulated for many years ago and while it is rich with oil and works well on clear coat single stage is where it really excels.

Dave, all good replies above. I would start with the PP and if that is not good enough for you use PB 2.0 or Megs 80 but with a polishing pad. If you see that is still not good enough then you could go with PB 2.5(equivalent to Megs 83 but easier to use)but once again with a polishing pad. I would not use a rotary to start but if you do, do as stated and tape off the edges. After that then BH with the EXP and depending if you have it another day you could top with Nattys.

That is the regiment that I use on my 72 GS that has ss paint. And yes, you will never get the ss paint as slick as bc/cc. I've tried numerous combos and never get it as slick but shiney as all he!!!!!!!.

Take it easy and we got to get together some time!!

OOOPPPPPPS!!! I just realized that you were working on this car today == I guess I should of logged on earlier -- better late then never but I have been with the neighbor most of the day trying to talk him into letting me do his Shelby convert!!

TD - I thought that was Doc's car. I remember seeing the car in the photos from the link you sent me a while back. Good luck - I am sure you will have it looking awesome.

here are a few pics of yesterdays progress, after a bunch of test areas I came up with this process,
wash...spray & wipe
clay...clay magic red
compound...transtar Tri-Cut 2 makita rotary, edge 2k 6" light cut polish pad
polish...PB SSR 2.5 makita rotary edge 2k 6" finish pad
polish...PB SSR 1 cyclo finish pads
Glaze...PB Black Hole Griot's garage 3" polisher
wax...PB Natty's blue by hand

I decided that yesterday I would just work the hood and two front fenders, I will post other progress as it is made. thanks for looking, TD

the paint on this car is very damaged, It has crows feet, checking on top of both front fenders and very deep swirls. It also has 1 to 2 mm sized black spots that are actually in the paint. It will never be anywhere near perfect but boy what an improvement. After I am all done polishing we will go through and remove all of the old wax build up around all the edges and such. I gave Adam a bottle of pro polish and a rag and he amazed himself on the chrome. I think I made Steve a new customer. He was amazed with all the Poorboy's World products that I showed him.
