My kids and I were in a store that got robbed this morning

My kids and I stopped at Race Track (gas/large convienence store) to get some drinks and sandwiches before starting detailing today.

We had our stuff and were walking to the register when some guy came flying towards us with a huge box of cigarettes (probably 2' x 2' in size) and said "out of my way". He had on a dark blue shirt like the other employees so I figured he worked there until I heard the girl yell "he is stealing those cigarettes". If she had said that a couple seconds earlier, my older son and I could have stopped him easily (he is 18 and will be playing college football this coming fall, the thief was maybe 5' 4" and 130 pounds or so) but he was already out the door. I went running out after him (still holding my drink) as he jumped into a dark blue Ford Explorer, so all I could do was get the plate number.

The store has him on video and I got the plate so unless the vehicle was stolen, the cops shouldn't have a real hard time catching him and the driver.

I don't know if I would have interfered for something like a box of smokes. He could have been armed and I'm pretty sure you and your son aren't bullet proof. Besides maybe he will smoke them all and die of cancer. It would look good on him:D

Good idea to just BE A GOOD WITNESS sometimes and this was likely one of those times. A box of cancer sticks isn't worth you and/or your kids getting hurt.

I am sure he took them to resell 'em. If they had been armed, I am sure they would have flashed a gun when I went outside. My main intention was to get their plate number, not really to physically restrain him.

In the store would have been different, he had nowhere to go and my son and I were right there.

All that for a pack of stoges.

Good thing you guys were alright...Probably added some excitement to the day :).

Would have been sweet if you and your son decked him as he was charging :up

Pretty exciting though!

You guys shoud tackle his a$$ down and then whip out your rotary and polish him to death :rofl

Way more than a pack of smokes, more like a large case of cartons. He was carrying a pretty large box that was full to the top which is why (along with the blue shirt) I thought he worked there. I wasn't expecting someone to be so bold as to grab an entire case that size and run out of the store with it.

Exciting start to an interesting day. My younger son detailed his first golf cart today. ;)

Trust me man, don't get involved with stuff lik that. The guy could of stabbed or shot your son and all for a pack of smokes? Not worth it. Let him go. Not like he was stealing your baby or something. I knew a guy that got shot and killed for chasing a guy from the store for stealing a pack of batteries.

In my mind right now, I'm seeing a really sweaty Scott and a guy in football gear doing a 2-manned clothesline attack ala pro wrestling style.

I stopped in this morning to get a soda and paper and they said the cops know who owns the truck but they haven't found the driver or the thief yet.

The manager said that he stole more than $1000 worth of cigarettes.

See post above. Waaaaaaaaaay more than a pack of smokes. The guy was definitely unarmed, it was a grab and go robbery.

And use the most abrasive compound in your detailing arsenal! Take that, you fiend! :buffing: :waxing: :rofl

I dunno, I'd never assume that somebody in street clothes is "definitely unarmed" ;) Imagine how you'd feel if just when your son takes him down he pulls out a box cutter...
