My Integra got hit...AGAIN!

Maybe someone should start a company that keeps an eye out for your car. Sort of posting a perimeter around it.

I doubt anyone will approach a car parked in a remote spot and put a ding in it if someone was actually present keeping a lawful arm wrapped around the vehicle (figuratively, not literally.) Something along the lines of a rent a cop. It might work. $15 an hour or something, $100 for 12. I know people that might do that, grab a lawn chair and park their keister next to a car and read a book. I think I did it before, but I was armed watching over sensitive equipment LOL.

I feel for you man...that is one of the most frustrating things you can have happen, especially when you are watching it unfold with your own eyes in that slow motion nightmarish way :soscared:

College parking lots are like a demolition derby. I took my wife to an appointment with Florida State last night and we parked about 150 yards away to make sure we weren't in the sardine can they call parking spaces.

Is it me or are parking space dimentions narrowing? You almost have to do a multi-step R-D-R-D to get out of a space these days. Maybe its so they can sqeeze in more cars...

"They took down our info, but no police report because it was on private property (stupid CT law)."

What kind of crazy law is that? Why would they pass such a thing? Boo CT.

"Well, I'm sitting in my car in the University parking lot today (backed in) letting it warm up."

This all sucks Sean and I'm sorry it happened again but it seems no accident that this is happening on a college campus...they tend to be very dangerous for cars by my own personal experience. The mixture of some immature people and tight parking conditions can be deadly.

GSRstilez- Sheesh, sorry to hear about that. Yeah, good thing you were there when it happened.

Ohio has a similar rule about what happens on private property, but I've been able to get a written police report anyhow by asking the LEOs in a nice way and explaining that the guy who caused the accident is an irresponsible person ("he was threatening to leave the scene.."). They don't issue a citation, but you have the cop's "expert opinion" in writing in case the insurance companies try to get cute.

"Ohio has a similar rule about what happens on private property"

Why do these laws exist?

Does this mean Sean can maybe sue the University for the damages?

There clearly needs to be a way for victims to be compensated.

I am sorry to read about more bad news for your car.

You must have been very naughty in a previous life to have this much bad luck

At least you were in your car to take care of it...I was coming out of Menards the other day and some a$$hole hit my front end and left some white paint and a chip on the bumper cover...no note and no white car to be seen...fukkheads.

The people are dead clueless when they drive. I think the estimate is 2-3 accidents a week in the lot. The school does nothing and even today after meeting with the head of security, he said nothing will be done in the future. I proposed a written driving test before you get your decal for the year, but he chuckled and said "Unfortunately, a driver's license is enough".

I went to the police station as well today. I complained about the lack of paperwork. They said its a "gray" area in CT. I got a supplemental report that should help. I spoke with the other driver today and hes still fine with covering it.

I got an estimate this afternoon and it turns out the bumper has a crack in it. The total damage came out to a little over $700 for a new bumper cover and paint/labor.

I'm cooled down over it now, it's just a pain in my ***. I had to take off of work this afternoon to get this sorted out and I have to worry about scheduling a time to get it fixed as well.

Sounds like your College PL is worse then the one at my HS. I have insane amounts of door dings (I have tried to stop caring, but to see so many weird shapes in the reflections is aggrivating) and scratches lengthwise (peoples backpacks and crap) down my doors. I was thinking about selling my car and getting something fun for the summer, but there is no way it would sell with the paint work that needs to be done.

Hey sean sorry to hear about the car i can't say that this has happened to me but at least an idiot in a lifted tundra didn't try to blow a red light infront of you and then decided to stop shoirt wen i couldn't see!! Resulting in this!

IIRC it has to do with the police only having jurisdiction (for traffic related issues) on roads that are publicly funded. Not *all* bad, IMO, as it keeps private property a little more "private".

I'd bet the U has some (fine-print) disclaimer about damage in its parking lots that students sign off on (most likely part of the parking permit application form). Probably something most students don't even *know* they agreed to ;)

The way for victims to be compensated is to get the person responsible (or their insurance company) to do it. Imperfect, but it keeps the matter strictly between the parties actually involved. Otherwise somebody (read: "you and I") would end up paying for other people's accidents even more than we already do through insurance premiums. In the U situation, IMO it wouldn't be fair for students who don't drive to have to pay towards fixing people's cars, and that's what would happen if the U paid compensation. Does mean that you're SOL when somebody does a hit-skip though :(

The other driver was fine with going through insurance. His adjuster (from his insurance company) is assessing the damages today. I will report back later on that.

Accumulator: Yup, I know what we signed to get a decal stated they are not responsible. It's just said that they could really care less that this is happening. Yes, its the responsibility of the driver, but what if someone gets hit and killed in the lot, then they might open their eyes.

Hope it does not come down to that.

Unfortunately, often times it takes just that, several times, to get a stinkin' traffic light put up :(

Yeah, it often takes a real tragedy to make people take "parking lot issues" seriously :( The same carelessness that results in fender benders can result in much worse when it's a person getting bent but some people don't think about that...
