So this is the first detail I'm actually getting $ for. It's usually been favors, gifts, for beer or because I was bored and offered to do it for free. I would like to do this more full-time, but living in an apartment complex and draping 200ft of cord through out it to power my buffers...not fun. The lighting also sucks and only makes it harder. I want to get more experience under my belt with polishing, so I offered to do my co-workers husbands car for a mere $10/hr. 10 hours later, I wish I had more time, more lighting, more pads, more towels, more room, knee pads, a seat and pretty much everything you need to be comfortable and make a job easy. 3 hours yesterday, 7 hours today. Fun times...
This car needs a repaint, so they didn't mind me "learning" on it. I'm no pro, but this ain't my first car either. However, it is the newest car I've ever polished (I usually work on beaters for friends/family that they are selling or just bought). My co-workers husband had a really nice WRX and some kid smokin pot smashed into the back if him with his boat Oldsmobile and ended up totaling the car. So he bought this car and the outside needed some desperate love. There are a TON of deep scratches, the clear coat is bubbling, its swirl city every where like it was meant to be that way...the car was in bad condition and even if I was a pro, it still needs to be repainted. But, that's not in their budget anytime soon, so I did the best I could with the limited budget I had and the horrible working environment I was in.
The steps:
Washed with ONR, because I don't have any other way!
Clayed with some leftover Meguiars Clay and ONR diluted for Clay Lube.
I just bought some 3D UNO to try, took me a while to get it down, but not bad stuff.
When I got frustrated, I went KBM with M105/M205
And I ended up finishing most of the car with M205 because Uno is a PITA to wipe off, but M105 is worse!
1 coat applied of 3D Poxy, just bought that too, first time using it. So far so good!
And I didn't take too many photos, but the owner is going to take HD photos for me when he gets it back tomorrow. It isn't perfect, but for only $100, I don't think they can complain!
And all finished. These are the best photos I could get @ 10:00pm.
...and now she wait's to be delivered back tomorrow morning.
