My first machine detail attempt

I spent the last few days using my new PC 7424 in my first forage into

machine detailing. I am not 100% satisfied with the results, and will

probably try a more aggressive polish and / or pad in the spring. What I

did was the following:

Washed the car.

Clayed it using Meguiar's clay

Polsihed it with Meg's yellow foam pad and #80 Speed Shine

Waxed with Meg's NXT (applied by hand, buffed off big surfaces with

microfiber bonnet and PC).

Car is a 5 year old Mercedes ML430 that sleeps inside but spends most of the

days outside at work. It's been offroaded, mostly at the beach, about once

or twice a year, and is a daily driver.

This being my first try with a machine, I heeded Meguiar's recommendation.

Next, I will try their Dual Action polisher (#83, I think), and maybe their

foam cutting pad.

Please see below for some pics (not sure how to insert pics in my post - the size limit seems very small if I try to upload pics when posting).

Looks pretty good to me, but of course, this is Autopia. We can also see so much in pics, and if you aren't happy with it, there's nothing wrong with working on it until you are.

#83 with cutting pad is a fair bit more aggressive. #80 has always been pretty weak, but a great finishing polish/glaze.

Try after claying using a stand alone paint cleaner. Get the micro dirt out of the cracks of the clear coat.

I would get a cutting pad (sonus orange pad) and a cutting polish. Make sure to use a finish polish like SFX #3 or megs dual action. Try a better product then NXT. Like KSG for a sealent and P21S for a wax. I like Autoglyms Super Resin Polish. It's a cleaner, non abrasive polish and sealent. I did some "work" cars with it and they really like it. They say it cleans easier and is just as shiny as when I did it.

Sorry guy. I didnt' see your pic link. It looks great. Especially on normal problem spots like the hood. If you have swirls go ahead and try a cutting polish but if not don't worry about it. I would try a better wax like P21S

#80 is a really fine polish. If you had moderate to heavy defects to begin with, #80 isn't going to get them out. Come spring time try #83 out and then follow up with #80, you should be pleasantly surprised :D

I agree with Audipower also. When you pick up #83, see if you can get a nice carnauba like Natty's Blue. It really finishes out the look of the paint nicely.
