Is that brake dust? I always thought it was just road grime and tar that got caked on. I take one of those orange-based degreasers/cleaners and hit the spots with a squirt of that stuff and use my finger to rub it clean. It works VERY well...give it a shot!

Too poor to get new rims but I'll try the orange-based degreasers/cleaners method that vaca222 mention

My Dad's S70 has the same wheels and when neglected the baked on brake dust really pitted the wheels. Get the dust off and put a good polymer sealant on the wheels ASAP. Think about changing the pads too.

Mpauly. Good advice.

Try P21s Gel Wheel Cleaner, leave it on for a while, use a brush to agitate it and then hose of. A resin polish will provide good protection. (Oh! Nice car, Volvo has come a long way)

Hope this helps
