My baby destroyed by a distracted driver

Are you happy with the settlement amount? Are they covering your rental for this whole period?

David, in the end I'm still getting screwed, but this the best possible outcome without resorting to all sorts of legal action. This is one of those times in life when you just have to cut your losses. Settlement is fair, I'm sure I could get it higher, but then I'd have to get the car repaired. So in the end, I guess I am happy with their offer, not happy about the situation. They offered a rental, but I passed, I have other cars I can drive.

What I was paying to insure has nothing to do with it. I could have had no insurance (ok by VA law) and her insurance would still have to pay me. I'm not dealing with my insurance company for obvious reasons. And it was May 5.

This is true. I forgot that it's the other insurance company that is compensating you, not your own. In that case, I agree that you should be able to recoup these costs.

BTW, if you have a car with lots of mods, you may want to seek out "agreed value insurance". I'm not sure if it is available for high volume cars such as Audis, etc., though.

Oh believe me, lesson learned!

Any chance at all that the lesson learned was to not modify the car extensively?

Heh heh, not that I'm saying I ever learned that lesson myself :o

Well, to an extent, just don't modify to the point of needing an engine pull to get your stuff off. I really can't complain and instead should be counting my lucky stars that this turned out so well.

I really feel for your loss Yakky. I myself have a 2000 Imola Yellow 6 speed, llightly modded sedan (APR Chip, Autospeed Tru-Dual, 710N's, OZ Gran Turismo GTs on Michelin Pilots, Hardwired Passport 8500 X50, AWE S-Flo, and a few other odds and ends).

Coming from a low mileage example of another B5 S4 in PRESTINE CONDITION with full Stage 3 (that I sold), this is one sad thread for the B5 world.

I hope all is well. I hope everything turned out for the best. Did you buy back the S and demod to recoup some of your costs?

PM me. I am really curious as to end result. Also, what is in store next? Another B5 S4?

I got pretty much the going rate for a low mile clean Stage III car, which was very fair, they didn't account for all the brand new stuff on it, but if they did, they would have tried to repair it, so in the end fair enough. I bought it back, am taking the wheels off (brand new) and selling the rest to another forum member.

As far as replacements, I've moved on, the B5 will always hold a special place in my heart, but its just too tough keeping one pristine, and then when you do, some moron destroy is and you have a mess on your hands. I picked up a new base model vette, which I'll probably leave alone for a while.

Heh heh, famous last words on that "probably leave alone.." :chuckle:

Having had 'vettes and Audis, I'll be interested to see how you like this change.

Yeah, I should have been more honest, I already have a Diablosport and have modified the factory tune to get rid of the CAGS. So, yeah Pandora's box is already cracked open a bit. I'm still getting used to the car, but it certainly is a blast to drive. I am a bit more careful though, AWD is an amazing crutch Amazing gas mileage for so much power too.

Heh heh, yeah...I might've known :D

And yeah, I bet it has a whole different feel from the Audi.

True, it really *is* something about the mileage you get with cars like that.

Heh... yeah, welcome to the world of the LSx... guarantee you'll be modding that sooner than later. Nice part is they're cheap and easy to work on (comparatively speaking) and you can make absolutely insane power while maintaining great gas mileage.

Man that really sucks. Glad you made at least not horrible with insurance. I just had a bike stolen and insurance only gives market value which is well below book right now. Got some money for mods that I had receipts for but nothing near what I put in. I feel your pain.

Did I hear someone say you picked up a 'Vette? I just drove one for the first time today at the Mainstreet in Motion event at FedEx Field this past weekend. Had an amazing amount of grip, although in my mind it felt more muscle-car than sports car. I was still pretty impressed!

That's seriously rough. Something similar happened to my dad's old Toyota Camry. The lunatic didn't see the red light because she was putting on mascara... I wish I was kidding. Also, I agree with scrapping it - it'll save a lot of stress with the insurance company- at least that's what we did with the Camry.

Uh, why the spammer link?
