My 1st click and brag- 06 Pontiac GTO

Well guys, I finally got up enough courage to post my first click and brag thread. I haven't gotten my Porter Cable yet so this was all done by hand unfortunately. (shoulders are killing me!!!)

A little background on my car. It's a 2006 Phantom Black Metallic GTO. I just got it about 3 months ago and unfortunately the condition of the paint left a lot to be desired. There were swirl marks EVERYWHERE on it. The build date is 9/05 so it's obviously sat through 2 winters and countless rain storms without getting the care it probably needed. Anyway, like I said this was all done by hand and I think it came out REALLY well for what i had to work with. Here's a history of what I've done so far.

One month ago:

wash with Meguiar's gold class (2 bucket method)

clay bar with Meguiar's clay bar kit

1 coat TropiCare TC8 swirl cutter

1 coat TropiCare TC3 sealant

2 coats Meguiar's NXT tech wax (liquid)

2 Weeks ago:

quick wash using Meg's gold class

2 coats Meg's Ultimate Quik Detailer (LOVE THIS STUFF!)

this pas weekend:

wash with Meg's gold class

1 coat of some old Meg's liquid Carnuba I had laying around

1 coat of Meg's UQD

Meguiar's quik detail wipes for interior

Zymol leather conditioner for the interior (love this stuff)

Eagle 20/20 on the glass

Eagle One tire shine

I am REALLY liking this Ultimate Quik Detailer! It seems to really repel dust, dirt, and raod grime and keeps the paint looking shiny and glossy in between washes. God I sound like a Meguiar's salesman....I'm really NOT, just happens to be what I've been using lately. ;)

Sorry for the SUPER long post, just wanted to be thorough for my 1st post!:)

Looks great. Thats the same color my brother had on his 06 GTO and it always came out good after a detail... I wish he hadn't sold it.

Unfortunately, this is about the only one I've got where it's sitting outside in a semi-sunny setting. I am constantly trying to get it OUT of the sun to do the detail, and never seem to drive to any sunny location for pictures. I'll try and get some sun shots next time .

Looks really good, especially for doing everything by hand. Once you get a PC you can take your finish to the next level.

Really nice interior cleanliness, looks brand new still. :)

Thanks Scott, that means a lot coming from you! How is the Porter Cable/Pinnacle XMT kit from autogeek? I know there are probably some better polishes out there but I was sort of looking for an all in one kit so I didn't have to buy a bunch of different products.

P.S.....the car ALWAYS looks like that on the inside. My father says it looks like you could eat off it.:chuckle:

I typically use Optimum Polishes, never used the XMT stuff so I really can't advise you one way or the other.

I did this GTO recently using Optimum Poli-Seal and Opti-Seal (very light swirls, would have used Optimum Compound and probably an orange cutting pad if it needed deeper polishing). Really nice combo on the metallic black paint.

Hope this helps. :)

Hey SpeedFreak

Amazing work there! I picked up a bottle of the new Meguiars quick detailer today at PepBoys but put it down b/c I have WAAAY to much stuff on order and Ive been spending too much money lately in general. But eventually...I will have to get some of that UQD. Seems like its gotten great reviews.

Thanks a lot guys for the positive comments! I can't wait to get my porter cable and really get going on the finish.

Scott- I'll check out the Optimum polishes. The GTOs are known for having a really soft clear coat, since you used it with no problems....should do fine for me. I only have very light swirling on the major body panels.

Nice work and a nice reflective shine. The interior looks nice too. The picture of the console and hand brake is a really good picture for composition (It just looks cool).

You'll be amazed what you can do with a PC.

I look forward to seeing some more of your work when you get your PC.
