Mothers Clearcoat Wheel Polish?

Just curious if anyone has used this Wheel polish before? And if they liked it?

CCWP is made for coated wheels - it's a light polish formulated for the plasticized urethane used on coated wheels.

It's great for removing embedded brake dust and light scratches from coated wheels, and removing yellowing (oxidation) of the clear coat, but the product is not overly aggressive.

Hi Forrest,

Would a nice coat of Mothers Carnauba on top of the CCWP be an asset or would it basically be duplication.

TIA

excellent question, I was just wondering myself if that Mother's polish would last longer and look better topped with a pure wax.

Honestly, a carnauba based product won't last long on wheels. CCWP is a polymer, so I'd use it by itself.

But, if you want to, go right ahead.....

Did not know CCWP was polymer. Scrub the wax then.

How many coats of CCWP to get the optimum shine and depth?

tia

I've never used the product, but it looks like it is a polish/cleaner/sealant. Any additional coats will remove the previous coat, so aside from additional cleaning, extra coats won't = extra shine or protection.

Wait... you mean CCWP is actually like an all-in-one product that not only polishes, but protects with a polymer of some kind as well? I didn't know that either!

It doesn't really sound like it from the description (website):
Clear-coated wheels will dull with time-the surface is a clear coat, which is just like paint. You polish and wax the rest of the paint on your car, right? Give your clear-coated and painted wheels the same respect with Mothers® Clear Coat Wheel Polish. Designed specifically for wheel coatings, it will remove minor scratches and blemishes and polish out all the little imperfections. Your wheels will sparkle just as bright as your paint-give them some Mothers®' love with Clear Coat Wheel Polish.

Yup. I have it, and I love it's gentle cleaning power. It beads water fairly well. Haven't tried it on paint yet... :p

Is there a reason not to?

It's not for paint - the plasticized urethane on wheels is different than body paint.

It leaves behind a polymer coating much like our Chrome Polish does. That said, don't confuse it with a synthetic polymer for paint - they're 2 different types of coatings (the carriers for the polish - to remove imperfections - are polymer based, so they leave a "finish" behind. It's not the same as a polymer based product for paint protection, where the polymer is FOR the protection versus being the carrier).

So this removes that yellowy film that are on some mags? I have wheel cleaner to remove brake dust and the such. This is polish so it's different of course than wheel cleaner. Is it pasty?

MikesJo - if the yellowing is on a coated wheel, it's most likely oxidation. CCWP will remove it, but remember, it's a very light cleaner, so multiple applications or a stronger product may be required (Nissan Maxima's are the worst, I believe, at yellowing of the wheel clear coat).

It's a thick liquid, not a paste, BTW.

Ok Thanks forrest. What other products are similiar or better than mothers?

LoL, you do realize of course that Forrest works for Mothers? All kidding aside, try not to fall into the newbie trap of being more focused on the product LINE than on using the right technique and the right KIND of product.

MikesJo - I'm not aware of anyone else that actually makes a product like CCWP. There are plenty of other propducts which can be used for that particular application, but none others made specifically for, and marketed to, that need.

Pick your favorite light polish for removing the oxidation, and then a good synthetic for protection (or use our CCWP).

This is a product I need to try sometime. I have some scratching and hazing that this may be just the ticket for. The idea that it's made for plasticized urethane is interesting.

I'd like to buy some of this clearcoat wheel polish, but I can't find it anywhere. I've checked in most of the major auto care sections in variety stores, autoparts stores, and even googled to try to buy online.

Can anyone tell me what stores carry it...or direct me to a website/thanks for your help...TC
