Most regreted detailing product purchase?

What's the product you've wanted your money back for more than anything else?

Me: Wolfgang Fuzion. Glad I only paid $99 for the stuff, total hype. GC50/50 eats it for lunch at 1/2 the price and is just as durable. The looks from this stuff are on par with quite a few spray waxes.

The banner add on the side of the forum right now (for CR spotless) shows a guy using a brush to wash a car and boasts that it stops scratching. I think I would regret that purchase.

When I first started looking at detailing products on line, (years ago ok) I bought into the whole Wolfgang line - hook, line & sinker.....I can laugh about it now.

Countless cheap hoses and sprayers for the hose. Bought one hose from Harbor freight and it burst on the first use. They did take it back.

Some H.F. stuff (sockets for med. duty) is actually ok though. Now I use a $20 Snap-On sprayer that looks like junk but really works well and lasts. Next summer I'm setting up a better hose system to incorporate an Eley hose reel and CR Spotless.

Other regrets? A steamer for a couple hundred $ that didn't really do what I needed. Exchanged that and put money into great shop lighting.

Probably my Kärcher pressure washers... like a dummy I kept buying them, and they kept dying :o

Otherwise...probably 3M Finesse ItII, Griot's BOS Wax, P21s' wax and GEPC, OCP (version...oh, maybe 2.0).

Might add SurBuf pads to that list too, even though others like 'em.

I was just looking at buying some Eimann Fabrik stuff the other day, just for something "different." I've heard that the carpet cleaner is great, though.

I've still got a tiny bit of that and their degreaser. They did have a couple of very good products.

(I'm trying to think of something to add to this list....)

I received a free sample of Fuzion and although I (personally) liked the WOWO aspect of it (also the ease of application/removal, trim-friendliness, etc.), I can't see spending the kind of coin they want for it. Too many other good/great LSP's out there for far less.

I have 2. Ironically, both are well-liked products but have such relatively short lifespans.

I have purchased 2 different Flex 3401 machines and both stopped working.

The other is a Aztec Hot Rod hot water extrator. Worked amazing for 20 or so hours then the heater stopped.

There it is, about $1350 or so in equipment that I feel like have not earned their higher price tags. Love them while they work though.

For this year,

CG Glossworkz Glass Cleaner - acts like a detailer, it will haze then require a second buff off later. Some say dilute with water so plan to try that soon. It definitely has a fruity smell - similar to CG Speed Wipe.

Pretty much everything I've bought I'm happy with. There have been a a few "trim restorers" that not. Solution Finish and Back to Black. SF washed right off after first wash, and I prepped the plastic by scrubbing it with soap and alcohol, then rinsing with DI water

I'm not sure why the Wolfgang stuff gets bad press here. I Love Fuzion, and think its worth the money, especially with the refill for free. Also, the polishes are great too, the are made by Menzerna. Actually, I think all the AG/PBMA products are excellent. As for the cost, I just buy them when on sale.

SM Arnold synthetic wool mitt -> All this thing ever did was mar the paint. It would not hold wash solution very well either.

Rim Wax -> I really don't know what I was thinking when I bought this. Any sealant will work better, last longer, and not leave residue behind that is next to impossible to remove.

a bug scrubber sponge -> I got this from Proper Auto Care. It was a hard honeycomb-like block that was supposed to be safe for removing bugs and tar. It was not safe. It did not work. **DOH**

The number one regretted purchase has to be the Nomad H2O on the Go sprayer. This thing essentially collects dust. I've broken the hose attachment once already because the plastic connector is so delicate. Tech support is/was non-existent. The Nomad runs off 12 V DC, but for some inexplicable reason does not have it's own rechargeable battery. My comments are in regards to the old version of this sprayer. The newer models look better.

Cut it into thin pads and use them to clean bugs/etc. off the windshield, works great for that.

Good call on the FLEX JC. We use them in our shop, but since they save time over other machines, they can be worth the effort. However, they are just throw away machines. Expensive to fix also. We now use the Dynabrade heads on a Dewalt and probably won't be buying any new Flex machines.
