Moldy interior

I don't know how it happend but I came out to the garage one day and noticed that my interior was "dusty"....Yeah, NOT DUST! My steering wheel looked like a dalmation and and so did everything else. I have been working on my car for a long time, and its been in my garage for a few years. Never did my interior get mold on it. I think it might have been because these last two months has been pretty much nothing but rain. All the humidity must have caused this I guess. Anyway here is the process and pics.

Seats were takin out and light shampooing with auto magic product

gloves were on my hands and simple green was used to wipe EVERYTHING down with an MF and brushes.

After I waited for the simple green to fully dry I used my new bottle of 1Z cockpit premium(I think thats the name) and wiped Everything down with it. As for the product and if I like it, not sure yet. Then I put everything back in and hopefully wont happen again. Here are the before and afters.

100x better and safer haha

In person, did the 1z cockpit make the interior trim look factory new as many people claim?

Well it made the top of the dash and the controls look fantastic. The thing I didn't like at the time was the steering wheel. You can't really tell in the pics, but the last picture, the middle of the steering wheel looks really grey. In person it looks REALLY REALLY grey. Today I got in it to let it run for a bit and noticed the interior and the steering wheel was growing on me. I just didn't like how grey it was. I was thinking about it and it was probably that grey when I first bought it and I'm not a fan of grey interiors, but yeah, it really does look brand new. Its just wierd because I'm not use to seeing that, just used to a clean, barely shiny interior. I don't know if I'm making sense. It just looks new with no dressing on it, like I have to put something on it. lol

Nice work. That would scare me to death.. not even sure I'd be willing to take the time to clean it.

Oh believe me, I considered paying someone else to do the job but since I do this for a living, I just sucked it up and went to town. LOL when I first saw it I did this:shocked then this:hm and almost this:bolt LOL. I put it off for 2 weeks and noticed it had gotten worse so I HAD to do something about it.

How long has the car been sitting? I had a 911SC get moldy on me, but it had been sitting around 4 months. I did pretty much the same as you; in fact, the interior was cleaner than it had ever been by the time I was done.

Did you use an emzyme based cleaner. (Don't think Simple green is) If you didn't the mold will come back fairly quickly unfortunantly. And what happened to the carpet in there?

Much better but I doubt I would ever want to ride in that again, mold is very hard to completely remove...

A cleaner with enzymes in it would be good to spray all over the interior. The Turbo Cleaner for the Tornador would be perfect.

It had been sitting there for a very long time. I usually start it everyday but I kept forgetting or was really busy. With all this rain here and humidity I think it got to it.

No I didn't, I used what I had. The carpet was takin out a long time ago. I want to get black carpet and change some interior pieces to all match. ( its been a looooong project)

well its wierd because the mold wasn't sticky or wet or anything. I have never delt with mold so thats how it might be but it was like dust. When I was removing it, it was just wiping away as if it was just dirty. So that makes me feel a bit safer in it. Plus it didn't smell bad or like anything at all.

Bob, I really would like to get the tornado but I will have to wait to do that purchase.

For the mold I just meant mix up the Tornador sollution and spray it on the interior. ;) You won't need a Torandor for that.

I would pick up some Damp Rid. That should keep it dry in there and stop the mold. Great turn around btw and I hope it doesn't come back!

What's the details of your project if you don't mind me asking...

I don't know exactly yet. I had the car done the first time, well the outside. It was bagged, had a kit, wheels, and it looked really good. I was riding too low one day and cracked the front piece of the kit so took it apart and starting over. Haven't decided which way to go yet.

I haven't heard of Damp Rid. Is it a spray or do you have to keep a canister or something in your car?

here is a link:

D A M P R I D - The Original Non-Electric Moisture Absorber

it is a small container that you can leave on the floor while you are not driving you car

then just put the lid on when you are working on / driving the car

it works great, you will be surprized how much water it pulls from the air!

and removes odors also

best part is only about $5 @ Lowe's , Home Depot, Walmart

a must for any car that sits
