MOL Went Back to vBulletin?

I hadn't been there in so long since I tired of the mutual-admiration-society aspect as well as the new discussion software. Looks like they went back first of the year and made a bunch of new rules about stuff. I just went over there looking for G110 news and was kind of surprised that they had changed a ton of stuff. Film at 11.

I had stopped going there all together because I hated the new forum setup. I just checked back in over there last week and noticed the same thing.......and what do you know.....I've been posting on there again. Much better to be back to normal.

I visited there a few times but then my account was gone. Never did get the hang of their car crazy web thing. Some guy named Peter kept wantin to be my friend. Where I come from, some coyboy wants to be yer friend, ya shoot him and ask questions later.

LOL! That's what we're saying, they changed their "crazy web thing" back to vBulletin software, same as here.

I just read this new rule:

12. All messages posted to MeguiarsOnline become the property of Meguiars Inc. and may not be deleted without first obtaining permission. Deleting messages without permission will result in immediate banning from the forum.

I feel like if I sign up again I'm about to make a deal with the devil or something. Sometimes I wonder if the Chinese government is behind MOL LOL. The people that post there regularly are either diehard fanboys or have something to gain (monetarily) by promoting Meguiar's. It's hard separating the truth from bias on that forum. IMO, there's much more you can learn from this site than MOL.

Yeah, they had originally switched software because they felt the previous version of vB had some security holes that they didn’t want to live with and that CS was more secure.

The vast majority of MOL members disliked the CS software. I got used to it for the threads but the photo gallery was miserable beyond imagination.

The new rules are actually more relaxed than the old ones. They used to not let you post links. Now they do.

The “property of blah, blah, blah... is there because they want the discussions threads to stay there. The discussions are supposed to be useful and/or informative and they want anybody to be able to go back and read them in the future. It’s a legalese way of saying something that should be common sense, once you post something on the internet it’s out there and it’s you can’t take it back. If you don’t want it out there don’t post it.

If you signed up under the CS software you have to re-sign up under the vB software. They weren’t able to transfer accounts between the two. But if you had an account under the older vB software it was transferred.

Yeah, I don’t think I’ve talked to anybody on MOL (or anywhere else for that matter) who ever hangs out on Car Crazy Central. It’s, umm, different.

Sounds to this ole fart like somebody was plum stuck on stupid when they made that decision.

Curious... I wonder if they also own the liability of owning a post?
Good question. My guess is that it could be argued either way and would take an actual court ruling to know for sure.

We just have a more diverse population of fanboys than they do :D

I actually stopped going there as well when they made the switch. I may have to drop by again...

Same here. The new board was horrible. Slowest board I've ever seen, it was like I was back on dial-up again. Now that they are back to vB, I am posting there more often. :)

Meguiars ain't the best but I signed up. You can never reach out to enough people, in my opinion.
