Mobile guys: Impulse wash/detail package?

This thread is indicative of the two kinds of business models I've seen on Autopia. Both being of a higher caliber than the typical detail shop/dealership department but using different approaches from eachother. If you're a weekend detailer or part time 'business' you can hold out for paint correction jobs; but if you have a full time detailing business there has to be an offering of services tailored to your customers. I'm mobile, I can't drive an hour to work just an hour- so I impose minimum car requirements for this type of job. This brings me to multi-car families, corporate offices, business parking and fleet maintenance. Customers that want a clean car but don't need a 'full' detail every month.

A few simple truths that some people fail to realize:

Not everyone notices the defects or cares about a swirl free finish.

There are improvements to be made that aren't in the range of flawless.

Customers will pay for a properly done hand wash and vacuum.

Try pricing these lower tier services in accordance with your hourly rate for a correction appointment. If it takes you an hour to do a wash/vac/window job and you typically make $50/hr doing correction- simply try charging $50. The supply cost for doing this kind of work is absolutely lower than the cost of correction as well as the liability being greatly reduced. I think alot of visitors to this and other forums think of every Autopian as someone spending 70 hours a week solely correcting the finishes on $100K cars, while the members who own full time detailing businesses realize that this isn't the case. There are more Nissan drivers in a single small town than there are Ferrari owners in an entire county. You're leaving money/growth/advertising on the table by not offering an 'express' detail. Additionally, it doesn't have to be cheap- use the same quality products and attention to a job done correctly that brought you to this website.

You never know but there may be a Ferrari back home in that persons garage that they DO want you to fully correct. As long as you can get your worth or at least close enough to it and you have the time to do, DO IT! There is no such thing as making up for lost money in detailing.

You are so right!

I picked up a 600.00 house and deck power washing job last week (took me 7 hours by myself to finish) from one of my 25.00 wash and shine jobs.

You just have to look at the big picture when doing these jobs. I've had so many voicemails that went like this.........

"Um. Yes, This is ....... and you cleaned some vehicles for ........ last week. I was wondering if you could give use the same 25.00 deal here where I work. There are 6 wanting their cars done. If you can give us that same deal."

I showed up and ended up doing 8 (took me and my helper 2.5 hours) PLUS this the same place I got the above mentioned power washing job. All from one place and with my attention grabbing 25.00 deal.

Not at all. Just think it is a good idea to pick up on a few small jobs when you are already on location. I definitely don't want to just do wash and waxes but if I add just a couple each week at $75 each when I am already on location, that's $600 a month or $7200 a year in extra income with not much effort.

Seriously, ONR + Opti-Seal. How long does that take?

Most could pay their work vehicle off in a year from just doing this Scott.

Very good info here bro!

When you starting doing this as a business and treating it like one, this is what you will see. It takes time to soak in but the sooner it does, the more money and consistent work will show up. With less advertising money allotted.

Some $800 that would've been left on the table...
