Mobile Detailers - Do you keep your rig/car clean?

Just saw two mobile detailers in the past couple days and one was in a swirled up black suburban and the other one was in some dirty @ss white van. Hard to take these guys seriously when they can't even keep their own ride at least washed.

I know Scottwax keeps his pretty darn clean, what about the rest of you guys?

I keep mine clean for three reasons:

1) I like cleaning it, it looks better when it's clean and that makes me happy.

2) It's good for business. I've had more than one person approach me because of it, or customers ask how I got it like that, etc...

3) It makes for good photos on my website!

Mostly I do it for myself, but I definitely think it gives a better impression when you drive up to a customers house in a car they find enviably clean.

:)

I wash my van every week. Cleaner wax applied once a month.

Appearance is important. It reflect your work and image. BTW, clean car make me happy.

Unfortunately my rig is more often dirty than clean...and that is a good thing as it means I am swamped with work.

I often speak this line to my client's:

"The shoemaker's children are always barefoot and the detailer's truck is always dirty". ;)

Recently a client gave me the run around and chose someone else. He told me the other detailer gave a lower price but then that detailer told me the real reason: because my car had some swirls. Even though I told the client the first time I met him not to look at my car since I haven't polished it in 8 months. No big deal. He ended up being an ......!

I love spending time with my girlfriend more than my car, even though I'd like to have it look tip top - with dark blue I used to detail it every 4 days. That much attention kept it looking perfect.

No way will I do that nowadays.

Agreed...Me and my girlfriend hang out every chance we get (which I love) and even better she says "can we clean our cars this weekend" almost every week :) If my car desperately needs it, I will stay up late at night and work in the garage to get my car back to the shape she deserves. Im sittin in the garage right now in fact :) Just washed...going to put a coat of pink wax on soon - - a clean car will always turn heads. Especially if it is a daily driver and an older car....Also for the pride, I take pride in knowing my car looks good and is taken care of compared to others.

You have the Lightning + trailer right?

I don't mind seeing "some" swirls or it being dirty or what not, cause let's face it, as a daily driver MOST of us will have some swirls sooner or later, that and rain ruins everything too.

But when the WHOLE vehicle is covered in HEAVY swirls, and doesn't look like it's been washed for awhile than I wouldn't trust them.

I kinda just wanna talk to one of these guys just to see how much they know.

Mark I did. I traded the L in for a Sierra CC last March....

BTW, those wheel and lights will be gone by next week

It is amazing how much stuff I can squeeze into my car.

I'll remember that one.

If I get to my van three times in one month I am ecstatic. I am usually washing mine in the corner of a grocery store parking lot at 6a just before I hit an appointment. When I get gas I clean the windows and wipe down the wheels. When I am filling my water tank I am dressing my tires and trim. Once a month the whole box gets an interior detail. Never enough time in a day.

Took this pic off my trunk lid this evening...with my super high quality ZERO.3 megapixel camera phone!

My car isn't always spotless because I am pretty busy but I do try and wash it weekly.

This does happen alot to me. When I was using my navy blue tracker to pull my trailer, I thought I was going to have a heart attack one of these days trying to maintain cleanliness and keep it as swirl free as possible. But, I'm a little more luckier now that I got a white truck...but I'll still keep it clean. :chuckle:

This is the Tracker (retired to grocery getter)
