Microfiber Towels...

Question: Where does everyone get their MF towels from? I have NONE as of right now and I'm going to need to order a good many.

Thanks,

JS

I really like Poorboys World MFs, they're all very high quality and reasonably priced. I know that Dwayne got a new shipment in of towels that had to be sent back, I'm not sure if he's got the ones he actually ordered yet but that might be somewhere to check. I've also got quite a few very nice Cobra MFs from Autogeek, I think they've got a special going for buying a 12 pack of towels (maybe a 6 pack?), you'll want to check there too

Poorboy's has a special going on the warehouse sale that is hard to beat. Check out the Sale in poorboy's world forum.

That is such an indivdual decision that you will probably need to read and read and read and then make your choice. You will get lots of suggestions and they will probably all do the job for you.
I finally narrowed my suppliers down to:
(In alphabetical order)
These 5 have excellent MF's
Excel Detail
Meguiar's
Pak Shak
Poorboy's
Premium Auto Care

These 2 are cheaper and IMO, the MF reflects that.
Target
Wal*Mart

That's just a small percentage of the number of suppliers. I think there must be hundreds if not thousands. Many carrying the same towel. Sometimes under the same name, sometimes not.

All of the Detail City sponsors have good quality MF's.
Supporting those that support the forum isn't a bad idea.

To me it is about preference. I'm liking the Cobra mfs better (Autogeek), except in ww, which I prefer Poorboy's. I got the PB's warehouse sale mfs for cleaning and I am quite pleased--the softest cleaning mfs I'll ever get.

specialty motoring produts has nice ones lined with silk or some other very soft and slick material like the ones from meguiars. i really like the meguiars with the silk linings because they are very soft and have held up well for me. I also just recieved a poorboy's world waffle weave and it is very nice. I've ordered some from autogeek but they haven't arrived yet but i've heard good things about the cobra microfibers. I'd go with either of these companies. I wouldn't go with the ones from sam's, walmart, costco, etc. I have found that they just aren't up to the quality of the others.

I've recently become a big supporter of the Cobra towels from Autogeek. During a promotion, I got a Ultimate Guzzler free. It's a HUGE WW towel with hand pockets to make it more manageable. I liked it so much I ordered another one. I also like the Cobra WW Glass Towels. Definitely the best glass towel I have used to this point. All the sponsors on this website have great MFs though. You really can't go wrong with any of them. I recently did buy some MFs from BJ's Wholesale Club, but they will be confined to door jambs and the engine bay.

I disagree; I actually use A LOT of the Sam's Club microfibers. Specifically, I use the "Hometex" branded MF (light blue). The towels pass the CD test, and I've never had problems with them causing any marring (unless of course I picked up some grit accidentally).

I've done side-by-side comparisons of these with PakShak towels, as well as the Meguiar's MFs... and personally I don't find the Hometex to be much inferior... even after being washed several times.

To each their own, but I wouldn't count the Sam's Club Hometex MFs out. Especially for the price (I believe the price just dropped, too... I paid $11.86 for another 25-pack of them tonight).

I agree Also the Vroom & some Walmart Plush towels are good. In fact i was @ wal-mart & i could have sworn a plush towel they had on sale felt like the mega plush. Obvously its not the same Quality but MF's @ autozone & other places like target etc. are catching up. :book:

I did buy the large Vroom towel at Target and I think I probably got a $7 towel for $7. The Vroom didn't seem to be very absorbent. Big, plush and soft, but it didn't pick up S&W like some others.
The Large Wal*Mart MF's for just under $7 were the same way, but they seemed to get better after several washes. Maybe that will happen with the Vroom.
The new Poorboy's Mega Plush 16" X 27" at $6.95 seems like a much better value. Not quite as big, but plenty big enough to do anything I have used it for.
That includes S&W on the Montana mini-van.

I buy these towels at Sam's and I use them exclusively for all my high-end vehicles. I get compliments on how clean the glass is all the time. And I only use water, no glass cleaner of any kind. One towel will dry a full size car, easy. And just under $10 for 18 towels.

I too have not had any horrible experiences with the towels from walmart, sams, and costco however they are simply not up to the quality of the others i mentioned. Durability after several uses and washes, yes i know the proper procedure for cleaning mf's, is my main gripe with these mf's. They do perform reasonably well but for me they have been relegated to the interior, engine bay, wheels, and exhaust. You can't beat the cost though and admittedly i do own about 120 of these mf's.

It must be the way I close my teeth when I clean glass because the towels I use are excellent. I bought those expensive so call high quality towels and they don't out perform these. I like I said, I only use water to get spot-free, invisible glass, thats how good the towels work.

When I switched over to MF 100% from terry and huck towels last year cost was an issue. I wanted at least 100 towels and spending $100's or worse $1000 wasn't going to happen. I liked the 16" x 16" size ones and Sams had some 18 for $10 (70/30). They worked great and I have no complaints. I've noticed recently Costco has some Yellow ones (forget price but per towel was cheaper that the Sams towels I bought). They were an 80/20 mix though. I bought a pack for around the house so that I could easily tell them apart from my work towels. They seem fine too. Sams as mentioned above now has the 25 for under $12 which are 80/20 mix too. I've had two customers in recent months buy new black cars, I have no problems using the towels on their cars. I don't doubt that there are better towels out there and if I were just cleaning my car or doing only details I'd probably being using them.

You will get what you pay for in microfiber like Charles said

I buy quality towels from PAC and Poorboys for paint and buy the cheap stuff for wheels, jams, engines, and interiors. There IS a difference in the way they absorb liquids and pull polishes and waxes off the finishes!!

I think/thought the Hometex were 70/30? I'll have to look at the bag I just bought and see if they changed them.... I hope not!!

The Poorboy's, Excel Detail, Autogeek Cobra & PAC towels are all very nice but Pak Shak seems to be the best overall line. Their glass towel blows everything else I've tried for glass away.

I try to use Target & Costco mf for doorjambs, wheels, etc.

What I'm paying for the towels, the end result is, I'm detailing some of the most expensive vehicles ever made, high paying clients and they all say they have never seen cleaner glass. Remember, the rich and wealthy demand the highest quality, no matter the cost.
The statement "You will get what you pay for" sometimes does not aplly to everythiing. Ohh, since I pay less for the towels, my profit margin is higher. :D
