Michelin Brake Dust Repellent?

Hey guys, after reading the responses to my AA Wheel Cleaner post I've decided to go with the sealant rather then harsh cleaner method. I did a search and this product came up with some good reviews, and its the only one I've found specified for the job. But the review was from 2002 (I think). Anyways curious if this is still a go to for this type of thing or if I should use any of the following:

Z5

ZCS

KSG

PB EX+C

Other?

Any of what you have listed should make the wheels easier to clean next time around.

I have tried PB's wheel sealant, SmartWax Rim Wax, DP wheel glaze and just recently Autoglym Wheel Sealant.

All seem to make cleaning a breeze and they do reduce build up. None of the ones i have tried have the repelling abilities like i saw one post on here before from Michelin.

303 aerospace protectant works great for repelling brake dust.

it doesnt last wash after wash though.

In my never-ending war on brake dust, I've used Klasse SG as well as Michelin Brake Dust Repellent, but not together. Each seems to help a *bit*, but KSG seems to make clean up a bit easier.

I'm wondering if the Michelin Repellent strips KSG. If Michelin does not strip KSG, it might be a good combo...

Yea, I was gonna mention the old thread with the review. I haven't personally use the Michelin product, so I don't know how well it works. However, I've used Collinite on my wheels, and they clean off very easily.

With what you have on hand, I'd probably put the KSG on it. But it would be better if you have some KAIO to prep the surface before you put on the KSG. You'll wonder why you didn't put on a wax/sealant earlier after you find how easily the brake dust comes right off!

KAIO also helps removes brake dust. I follow mine with AJT and it makes for easier cleaning (not as impressive as the Michelin, though).

I just put CG Wheel Guard on my Stang. I've never used a sealant before, so I won't be able to give any good comparisons to other products. But if I remember I can take some before and after shots for car washes.

No, the product won't strip off KSG or any other sealant you have on your wheels.

Hope this helps you out, brake dust is a very big PITA. :)

Thanks, Ben! Great help! - I did see the thread you mentioned a month ago - that's why I ordered a case of MBD. Now, knowing it is sealant-safe I'll use the MBDR over the KSG.

BTW - The instructions say to let the spray sit a bit until the foam "breaks." Would you happen to know of any benefit / harm to letting it sit a while longer before wiping off?

Thanks again!

Now where do I find this stuff?

I've been using this product since it was introduced. Autozone was the only reasonable source I've seen.

The product works well. It using following every wash. I use wheel cleaner every week so waxing wheels is somewhat counter-productive in my routine. The brake dust repellant suits me well and certainly works as advertised. I'll continue using it as long as they keep making it :)

How long does the product last? Have you tried layering it over another sealant such as Z5 or ZCS?

I suspect it would be on the job for many weeks if the car wasn't driven in the rain.

Don't think of this product as a wax or sealant - - it's not. It's a light foam that prevents brake dust from adhering. It can't be "layered". It's intended to be re-applied frequently.

I use wheel cleaner every time the car is washed so waxing or sealing wheels is somewhat of a waste since the wheel cleaner is going to quickly strip it away.

This product is highly effective on cars that generate a lot of brake dust. I'll try to get a few fotos of the stuff in action this weekend.

Zingy, the product does work as advertised. However, like all other products I've worked with, it doesn't offer the "miracle" so many hope and pray for. IMO, miracle products don't exist.

The stuff costs $6 a can. I'd suggest trying it and see if it meets your expectations.

I'll post some pictures before the weekend is over.

Let's see, I think Tom has answered all the questions but I'll add a couple of things. Tom mentioned Autozone, I'm sure I also saw it at Advance Auto. For members in Canada, good old Canadian Tire carries it but it's not cheap!

LowTech, glad I could help you out. I don't see it hurting anything to leave it a little logner before wiping, just make sure it doesn't dry before you do. My friend and fellow member here who has used it more than I have did clean the wheels first, applied KAIO, then WheelWax and after that cured some MBDR. This made cleaning Ford SUV wheels a breeze when it came time to wash them. Soap just removed all the dust, no scrubbing needed.

Without rain I can see it lasting a couple of weeks. Since we all like to wash our vehicles frequently I'd just apply it after your detail and you're set until the next time. Ordering from X1-R Corp is cost effective, retail wise the price is not the cheapest. As said, it's a product worth having. I've seen some imitators but doubt they are as effective as the Michelin.
