Menzerna vs Optimum lines for UDM

I will shortly be investing in a RO machine polishing set-up and would like some advice on which product line to go with. I recently read someone say that the Optimum compound/polish line doesn't work well with a RO polisher. Is this one man's opinion or a consensus view? Other considerations are...



1. I have a silver and dark blue car (the dark blue car is in really rough shape and will be my guinea pig)

2. I will need to be able to work out in the sun as my garage is too small for a comfortable detail session.

Get the Menzerna SIP and PO16FF from autogeek. Works great with both rotary and DA machines.

Sry, did miss that you where going to detail outside. IMO Menzerna is NOT sun friendly. Maybee some other can chime in?
 
The answer is "depends"



What kind of cars are you working on? For cars with harder clear coats, I found optimum impossible to use with PC. I know that optimum has worked for a lot of people with PC though, but it just won't do the trick for some.



As far as detailing in the sun goes, this kind of depends on where you're located. Optimum is known for its very long work times, so its easy to use in the sun compared to Menzerna polishes. But if it isn't that hot out, I've had no problems at all polishing with SIP and 106FF in the sun.



My advice is get SIP and 106FF and work in the afternoon or morning if you have to. These polishes are a major step ahead of optimum for use with a PC. They cut faster AND finish better, what more could you want.
 
I don't think that Menzerna in the sun will be any good. FPII perhaps but I had enough trouble with IP in my garage that I imagine it'd wholly suck in the sun.



And by the way, is there any distributor for Menzerna on the west coast?

If you're having trouble using IP in the garage you may be using too much.



No, no distributor on this end that I know about.
 
I'm in Wisconsin, and the paint on the silver RAV4 never gets too hot. I'm not so sure about the blue 98 OUtback. That car hasn't seen any love in years since my wife started driving it.

Get the SIP and 106FF from Autogeek and never look back. The working time on these is very good as long as you use a little bit of consideration about when you work. They both come with a very good orange pad and squeeze bottle.

Autogeek is sold out of SIP. I emailed them and they are expecting it back in stock in 6 weeks. Reading all these great SIP posts I decided to order some... Bummer

I was ordering at home the other night but realized I left my wallet with my credit card in my truck. So rather than go get it I figured I would just order it the next day at work. When I went to order it they where sold out. So good thing I didn't get my wallet, or you wouldn't have that bottle.. :p
 
my votes for optimum, didn't know anyone had trouble with thier line via pc. looking throught he c&b's there are a plethora of details done with opt. and pc. especially for a first timer it's a much more user friendly line. imo

I have all the Optimum products.



For the Menzerna line I have IP, 106FF and FPII.



Both are excellent product lines.



The menzerna IP I have used with the Cyclo and it created maring that I had to use a rotary to remove. I would only recommend this product with a rotary.

For correcting the 106FF and FPII seam almost the same. The problem for me with the cyclo is the Menzerna breaks down fast and thats it.

I find the Optimum to work a little better and longer. It also dose not clump upon the pad as the Menzerna.

I would only use the Optimum Compound not the Hyper compound with a UDM or PC

My vote would be for the Optimum.

If you were asking about rotary usage I would say it's a tossup.
 
IP worked just fine for me via Cyclo on this car.

If you are having problems with the working time of 106FF, try the Blackfire equivalent from CMA. Their SRC final finish is PO106FF but wth some extra oils for longer working time. I bought that instead of the PO106FF for two reasons. First, it is slightly less expensive. On a per unit basis, it's about the same price but since I didn't need the full 32 OZ., I had to shell out less cash up front to get essentially the same product. Second, I didn't need to screw around with RMG or otherwise to get a very long working time.



I should take some pics of my car after using the BF/PO106FF - the car is absolutely stunning in person because the paint seems to flow, glow, and just..well....wow.
