I'm going to have my car wet sanded by the dealer Wednesday under warranty due to acid rain spots all over the hood, roof, and decklid. I've tried to clay bar, polish, etc the spots but they are unphased. The dealer is going to take care of it under warranty since the car is barely two months old. Anyway, can anyone suggest questions to ask or things to look for with the detailer? He is supposed to be one of the best but I am ultra-anal about my car. I ordered about $150.00 worth of Pinnacle products the other day and plan on detailing it after I get it back. Any suggestions. The car is black in color and as everyone knows, it is very hard to keep swirl/scratch free. Oh, by the way, I come from preludeonline.com along with "NGLude".

hey, who is this by the way? im glad to see another luder here along with mom913... or somthing like that.

wow u ordered that much pinnacle stuff? from what i hear around here, i would stick with Zaino or Klasse. pinnacle products are great but not the absolute best in every category so it seems. but no doubt it will give u awesome and very satisfying results!:D

I go by "ed-camden" over there, which just so happens to be my first and last name:cool: . I had the whole "dried water spots on hood". I ordered the Sovrgn (sp) wax which is supposed to be the best out there (it ought to for almost $80). I figure if anyone can help with my car care, it is these folks.

I'm also a Prelude BB6 owner here.... '97 San Marino Red 5spd.

Although I still own the car, I've only put 300 miles on it in the last 2 years. It just sits in the garage...

You guys have any mods?

Huy

Oh yeah!!! I have an AEM cold air intake and pulleys, Mugen headers and exhaust, DC Sports short shifter, and the OEM body kit and security system. Hope I dont get in trouble for turning this thread into a mod listing:eek: .

wow, why dont u drive ur lude? u shoudl come to preludeonline.com some time if ur not alreayd a member there. then again, ur probably busy with ur supra;)

i have i/h/e, UR pullies, vafc, zex 65 shots, plugs, some safety guages, purge kit, and HU.

zoomin lude, yes i know who u r from my car care forum. beware of the idea that u get what u pay for in terms of wax. zymol is a great example of highly priced wax thats no better than a $20 wax... there a thread on that right here by the way. its called somthing like "have any of you tried this". go check it out

Just read your last posting...about the dried water spots and all. I hope you didn't order the wax as something to remove the dried water spots. In case you missed one of the FAQ topics, to remove water spots, all you need to do is spray a water/vinegar mixture on the water spot and it'll be gone.

My short list of mods on the Prelude: GReddy Power Extreme, Akimoto Intake, Field SFC-Vtec controller, and Tein S-tech springs...

Also, if you wanna try out the best wax for the money, One Grand Blitz wax is hard to beat at $15 for a tin. I can assure you that many other members of this forum can attest to that.

The first thing i would ask the dealer is if they have an electronic paint thickness gauge , if they don't have one dont have the work done by them. If they remove more then 0.3 mils the paint will fail. Swirl marks are also a big problem that's somthing to look for. go to www.autoint.com and look under the tech tips for more info on acid rain damage and repair.

Good luck! :)

I spoke with the service manager at the dealer a number of days ago about his skill and he said the detailer is quite methodical and measures everything. I didn't buy the Pinnacle to solve the spots problem, I've already tried waxing them out. I bought it to make my car shine like nobodys business once the spots are out and I'm working with a clean slate. I also bought it for future protectoin since I dont want to have to go through this ordeal again in the future.

I am a big Souveran fan -- but I use it on top of synthetic products.

Welcome to the forum. Take a look at the archives and at some of the articles on the Sponsor's site. You will find that most here are using either the Zaino system or Klasse products.

If you like the warmth of carnauba wax on your black finish, you will likely prefer Klasse All-in-One then 3 or 4 coats of Klasse Sealant Glaze. You only need to do this every six months or so. Then, put on a coat or two of Souveran. The Souveran will only last a month or so. But, it is so easy to apply and remove that I sometimes find myself putting it on more often than that.

Nothing beats the synthetic products for protection. And, in my opinion, nothing beat Souveran over Klasse on a dark colored car.

No flames please; I use Zaino on the Subaru and really like it too.

Huh? I guess I need to learn to talk fluent Japanese! I feel so out of it!;)

If you've already bought the Souveran, I put Klasse underneath it too. It makes a great long lasting protective base (6-9mo) for the Souveran to shine on. It'll even help extend the life of the hard wax. Welcome to the board, I'm sure you'll learn a lot here.

Good luck with the stealer, I guess its better you have the warantee.

Hey, my wife used to have a BB6 ('98 DWP Prelude SH with Mugen exhaust and PIAA 1000 fogs) but then we sold it to get an Mr2 turbo (I know, blasphemy) which we ended up selling to get the BMW 330i. I miss that Prelude. It was partcularly fun trying to figure out when the ATTS was going to kick on or shut down on the track! ;)

Too bad the Lude (in general) is no more.

As far as your question, try the vinegar if you havent already. It works real well! Otherwise, I would be concerned about having any part of the car wet-sanded by a detailer but as long as they are reputable and offer a warranty of some sort, you should be okay.

Glad to see another Prelude owner here. Welcome to the board. Be very careful with the detailer.

PS, It is 912mom becuase we are involved in a big project to restore Rusty, an early Porsche 912.

you guys are going to laugh (thanks mom for clearing this up, get all you kits to help you detail yet :) ), but I didn't know what "lude" meant.

haha, it took me long enought, I was going to post but I figured it was some uber expensive car that I can't afford.

and I so didn't even get that Ng you have a big picture of the thing in you signature everytime you post.

lol, I'm clueless!!!

Yell00ITR, I love my Prelude. It isn't the Type SH though. Just the base 5spd. I looked for an SH and nobody in the SE had one. Its crazy that the local dealers had quite a few of automoatics but I was dead set on a 5spd in black. I've always liked the ITR as well. When in first came out in '97 (while I was still in high school) I wanted one so bad, but my Dad had a problem with a $24K dollar car that didn't have A/C;) . I'm just now starting to auto-x mine, what about you?

Thanks for the vinegar suggestion. I'm going to try that this afternoon.

Yosteve.com, dont worry about the nickname for the Prelude. When I was younger I thought BMW stood for "British Motor Wheels":D .

It was a toss-up for me when I bought my car. My cousin had bought his car a week earlier than me and he picked the first ITR at the time, a '97. Being that I didn't want the same car, I opted for the Prelude. Both cars are a blast to drive; my cousin and I used to swap cars every once in a while for extended periods :)

Here's pic of our cars...the ITR has just been washed, and my car sitting in the background.

All this talk about Preludes gets me to missing my 1988 Si, which I bought in 1991. Jeez I loved that little car, but was heartbreaking when it was caught outdoors (and my family and I out of town) in a nasty hail storm.

I got back and the neighbor said all she could do was watch golf-ball sized hail pound the Lude. The trunk was the worst, though the whole car took a major beating... and no insurance coverage for "acts of God" at the time. Still loved it though, and kept that red as shined as I could on a college budget. I traded it in after two concurrent non-related transmission problems (costing about $1000 each). I think the previous owner didn't love it as much as me.

:(

Attached is a pic of me 10 years ago with my younger sister in front of it. I still go to Honda.com and build my own... maybe someday I'll own another one.

hey that is an awesome picutre man. its really great to see nice people haivng a bond with their lude. its also very nice to see more mature and older people than the usual teenagers fixing up their cars. sorry to read about the history of ur lude though:(

and steve, its ok u didnt catch on;) us luders use slangs and short terms for alot of things and subconsciously not even notice it. oh, luders mean people who own ludes... and yea lude is short for PRELUDE.

thus im Ng LUDER. my last name is Ng and i own a lude... get it? and the "oohs" start coming...:D

Well I tried the washing with white vinegar trick to no avail. I guess I'll just wait til tomorrow and let the dealer handle it.

Nice to see all of the former and present Lude owners here. Once I get mine cleaned up I'll try to post some pics of her.

As pertaining to the Pinnacle Kit I bought, just how easy is this stuff to apply and buff off? I've previously used Meguiars and that stuff is a PIA to take off with it smearing everywhere.
