Menzerna IP not enough...what next?

I just got my first car a few weeks ago, so it's been my first time detailing a car that doesn't belong to someone else. Whoever had it left some pretty bad swirls in there, so I figured I'd go the whole nine and go from IP to DACP to swirl free to FP to GEPC, then put down 10 layers of klasse and then a couple layers of wax...you know....just for the sake of doing it once. I used ABC and clayed the other day and started the polishing today. However, after doing most of the car with IP, I pulled it out into the sun and noticed that the swirls weren't completely gone. What should I step up to? I was using IP with a yellow finger pad for the PC. I want something that's sure to get everything out but that is gentle enough to be used by machine. I have rubbing compound but don't think that the marks are that deep. Should I try Meg's fine cut, or maybe even medium cut cleaner?

I tried. I did the hood twice, working the product in until it powdered. I can still see 3d style marks that kind of float over the surface of the paint, as well as parts of the swirls that I couldn't get out. Instead of getting another product, should I try the wool pad? How much more cutting power does it have than the yellow pad?

No, it think it's time to move to the next grade polish. It sounds like you're getting micro marring from the pad now. Plus, you should not be running the pad until it's dry. Keep enough polish on the surface to lubricate. Once the pad/surface goes dry you're going to be putting pad marks on the surface.

Mike Phillips might want to chime in on this, but I've always used MFC as a heavy polish for severe oxidation. It is about the same level of abrasive as 3M Fine Cut Compound. So, not, it would not be my choice for this job.

How abrasive is the IP compared to DACP? I have to do an Acura that is loaded with millions of spider web swirls and the paint is very flat. It is white and has been parked outside for a few years.

I was thinking of using IP on the hood, roof and trunk, then FP on the whole car, Vanilla Moose on the whole car and then Collinite. I chose Collinite for its longevity and protective quality.

The IP and FP seem like great products that work well together.

Do I need to be concerned about the IP being overly abrasive? I'll be using my PC with a yellow pad.

Any tips besides misting the pad with water?

If fine cut is too abrasive, what should I be using next? Unfortunately, that guide about the m5 hood polishing doesn't work anymore. That might have been a good resource, especially because my paint is the same (cosmos black).

Have you seen if going to a finer polish helps clear up this marring? IP will definetly leave some marks on black that will need to be followed up with by a finer polish in my experience.

Are the swirls mostly gone now, is what your seeing now swirl marks that remain, or are they fine marks from the ip?

The marks that are left look like disjointed swirl marks, as if parts of the lighter ones were removed, but the deeper ones are still there. I could try to follow it up with FP. Otherwise, autopia sells this. Is that stronger than IP without being too abrasive? It says it removes 800-1000 grit marks which seems even more abrasive than rubbing compound...

Nevermind, the description does state that it is a rubbing compound. Can anyone suggest a PC safe product that fits what I need?

My recent experience is that IP will polish up DACP, but not the other way around; DACP is more aggressive than IP.

Clean all you have to clean with Fine Cut, DACP or whatever. Then polish with IP and finish with FP. Great final surface to sealant or wax.

CMA says IP is a medium cut compound. Well, it's not, it's very mild. Marks left when used are most probably caused by the pad, not the product.
