Menzerna HGAS over BFWD

Hey you guys just got back from my first backpacking trip in the smokeys. My truck sat on a dirt road under trees for 4 days while I was in the woods and has never been so dirty. My problem is when I carefully cleaned all the dirt off I noticed the next day there are small dots of sap on the paint.I treid to QD and it just smeared it,how can I get this stuff off without harming my Zaino? If I washed with hot water would this help, hurt or do nothing? Please help!!:(

I've had good luck with Avon Skin So Soft. Not sure what effect it would have on Zaino though.

How about a clay bar?

Forget about saving your Zaino. Get that stuff offa there! It's going to pull the Zaino off anyway. If there was any "real" protection by Zaino or any other product, the sap shouldn't adhere. Fact is, NOTHING will keep it from adhereing.

I know of one clever way that works on large spots - but it might be a pain if you have a bunch'o'small ones. Take a piece of ICE and hold it on the sap for a long time. When the sap gets really cold, it gets much firmer, even brittle. Once it is cold you can often just pop it off with a fingernail. This may leave a tiny bit of residue, but that is much easier to clean than the big spots that just keep smearing all over the place, making matters worse.

Also - I wonder if "bug and tar" remover would work?

Try 3M Adhesive, Tar and Wax Remover (p/n 03607). I used it on a friends car that had sap blobs and it came right off.

This stuff is a lifesaver. I use it for all kinds of things around the car and house.

jazzyjack - have you tried clay on large sap blobs? IMHO it is lousy for that. I love clay bars - but I think, while they work well on tiny stuck above-surface stuff, they don't work well at all on gooey stuff like sap.

If the chemical stuff works, it will be the best bet because it will minimize scratching of the paint in the removal process.

Try a spray bottle mixture of water and heavy concentration of Z7 wash(3 to 4 capfuls/per 16 oz of water). Put it on the sap spots, let it stand several minutes, spray some more on then wipe it off and rinse.

I have been able to get tar off using this method although it may not be practical for you if your car is fully covered with spots. I don't think there would be any harm using moderately hot water in the mixture.

If that does not work, you could always try one of the high solvent tar and bug removers available in most stores.

Whatever the outcome, I would put another coat of polish on anyway once the vehicle is clean of the sap spots.

Carguy, No I have not used it on "sap blobs" (sounds sort of funny). I have however used it on a hood that was sprayed with Alder sap this past early September and it worked really nice. I like the heavy feel of the clay. I cut mine into four slabs before starting.

I used Meguiar's FI for lube and went to town. If I had a "sap blob" I'd have to try something else as you mentioned.

I find that clay doesn't do a good job on sap. I prefer Isopropyl Alcohol for this purpose. I find it to work better than bug/tar removers and even 3M General Purpose Adhesive Remover.

For years I have used the PAC "purple" label Menzerna products but "thanks" to this forum I tried the BFWD. I agree with all the posts, it looks great but I have alot of the HGAS with no FMJ to put it over. Since both products are polymer based can the HGAS be used over BFWD with the same results?

Thanx for all replys in advance
