JW, it would really help if you incuded some info about your car such as type, color etc. That said, how many passes did you make with with the FP and what speed was your P/C on? All these things play an important role in helping you out. I do have a very big tip for you as I also spent a great deal of time at Proper Auto Care's website prior to finding this site. CMA DOES NOT do a good job explaining that it may take NUMEROUS passes to get rid of those swirls. They also tell you not to go any faster than 3-4 on the P/C. They lead you to believe that miracles are going to occur after just one pass. They also don't explain how slow you should move the P/C across the surface when polishing. Make sure you're polishing correctly by watching videos on "You tube". Just type in Porter Cable 7424 and watch some videos. You might be surprised at how slow they go. I would suggest going over the area again with what has been working. I would rather see you work a little longer and move a little slower if what you're doing is kinda working. To answer your question NO WAY would I jump to a yellow compounding pad right now. The next aggressive pad from CMA is green, then orange, then yellow. A yellow pad will likely cause much marring that you will then have to remove with the white pad again. However, if you write back and tell me you have a corvette with a hard clear coat, then you'll need to take a totally different approach.
