Menzerna FMJ ?

Mochamanz1

Sun Blinded Detailer
I just applied Menzerna FMJ over A Zaino'ed Pearl White car with a tremendous increase in gloss and depth. I have a question about FMJ. Is FMJ effective as a stand alone polish just prepping it with apropriate product s ? I wish I had the guts to strip off everything and try it as a primary polish, but I love what I have now ;) I dont hear much on the forums about FMJ, so I am wondering if my experience is a fluke , or is the result of the combo of Zaio and FMJ.

i agree there is not much for information on menzerna products. i use the whole line in a series and then top it of with P21S as the lsp. i like the easy of application and the almost lack of any dust when it comes to buff it off. hope more people respond to this thread.

Menzerna FMJ (Full Metal Jacket) is one of the slickest sealants I have tried. It is up there with Four Star UPP for slickest. Protection is also comparable between the two. And both are really easy to use.

FMJ is not a polish but a sealant (polymer paint protectant)

Agreed, but I bet you're thinking of a certain movie title. :D

FMJ is short for Full Molecular Jacket.

FMJ certainly will give you that looked you described alone, i would even try to add another layer. For me 2-3 layers is when FMJ looks it's best. Its also very durable product aswell. I think the price has scared some users and is the reason you don't hear much about it, but there are some people who use it on here. Try the search, should give you a bunch of info.

I have FMJ, which I've applied to three cars. It looked great and applied easily. However, I'm not pleased with the durability. After about four weeks, the water beading is poor and it's lost most of its slickness.

I'm stripping FMJ of my wife's Subaru Forester and applying Zaino Z2 to compare. I may try stripping it off of 1/2 of the hood to compare. In any case, I'm very pleased with Zaino's slickness and durability compared with FMJ's.

Dan.

I have only used FMJ once but with excellent results. The FMJ turned my red Integra into an absolute mirror but still had a wonderfully vibrant look. It's definatley one of the brightest looking sealants out there.

No updates on durability as I felt the need to top it after a month, but after a month it was as slick as the day applied, beaded as the day applied, and looked as good as the day applied. BTW: My car is kept outdoors 24-7, and washed every 3-5 days.

I decided to use FMJ for winter protection topped with Collinite #476 (yeah, kind of overkill) and I found FMJ applies like butter. I felt like the MF applicator was not even touching the surface and taking FMJ off with a dry MF towel is like buffing air.

I had a few beads of sweat drop in the surface when I was taking FMJ off & it streaked/smeared pretty good. Reapplying FMJ took care of the problem but be sure the surface is 100% dry, don't let an water trickle out from behind trim, mirrors, etc or it'll make more work for you.

I found FMJ produces weird shaped beads, not at all like Collinite which produces round, tight, high water beads. The beads are kind of like the difference between an egg in a pan with yoke intact and an egg with a broken yoke.

Thanks guys for the info, but whats the difference between polish and sealant ? I was under the impression that they are one and the same. All the polishes mention protection and sealing, so I thought polish and sealant were interchangeable terms. They imply this by mentioning protection , and the like.... now, I know I dont know anything, so I am open to learning :) could someone define the difference between Sealant and polish for me ? Thanks in advance

I also have put fmj over z2/25 combo and it does have a beautiful deep gloss to it.It looks better than the zaino by itself. I live in temperate coastal ca so its easy to maintain.

I had the exact same experience.

To the original poster, if you want a good sealant for dark colours, try Z5. If you are working on a lighter colour, try Z2.

FMJ = Too expensive for the below avg results it produces.

Z5 is hardly optimal for dark colors. Something like UPP or Blackfire would look a ton better.

I use Z5 on dark and think its great. I think it looks better than WG, FMJ, and EX-P. And it actually lasts! What a concept...

Different strokes for different folks.

I agree it lasts, but I've never been impressed at all by the looks of Zaino on any dark color.
