Menzerna FMJ Results

I detailed a Porsche Saturday with a combo of Menzerna Powergloss (used on only two panels), Menzerna Final Polish 1 by machine, AIO by hand and then topped that off with the new Menzerna FMJ.

I was able to apply one coat on Saturday and then it got dark and told the client I would return Sunday to finish up and then take some pictures. Sunday weather was horrible so I finished it late today and applied a second coat of FMJ.

FMJ layers easily and it is a total pleasure to work with. Goes on clear and thin and spreads nicely over clean paint. From what I understand there are no cleaners in FMJ so I realy love that about it. It buffs off clean with no residue or powder left behind.

I only wish I had the new Menzerna Glaze to try out with the FMJ (the glaze is on the way) but I really like the look of the FMJ on top of the AIO and add to that the fine polishing abilities of the FP and it's a winning mixture.

I have pics posted here http://www.autopia.org/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=35231

Thank You,

Anthony

How about slickness....what products does it compare to in your opinion?

Slickness - Was in the high range. On a scale from 1 to 10, 10 being the highest, I would place it at around an 8. The last time I detailed this car, almost a year ago, I finished it off with UPP and Trade Secret and the client himself said that the paint had more gloss and a slicker feeling.

Now I have not used, as of yet, a carnauba on top of the FMJ because it looked so nice on it's own. I would give a slight edge in the slickness area to NXT over the FMJ but not much.

Great question by the way:up

True...but Wolfgang is even slicker!

So many good products out there....:D

So true! When my UPS guy drops by he should have some nice goodies for me :bounce

I plan on doing some side by side comparisons with Wolfgang, Menzerna, 1Z, NXT, UPP and a few of my old stand bys. Should be interesting.

Anthony,

That Porsche looks A W S O M E ! ! ! :bow :bow

Great job as always on the detail. :xyxthumbs

Is FMJ your favorite sealant as of now? Do you think that FMJ or Wolfgang would be better on titanium silver metallic paint?

Scott,

How about you? What is your favorite sealant as of now? Do you think that FMJ or Wolfgang would be better on titanium silver metallic paint?

Just curious as ever! :D

AMP,

Thanks:wavey

Lets see, I have used UPP and have no complaints with it except the time/set up factor. Other than that it is a great sealant.

NXT provides a great deal of gloss and depth but I am uncertain of the whole issue about it having some cleaning abilities also. I want my final sealer/toppers to be cleaner free.

Blackfire is a very nice sealant but in my eyes it doesn't have anything over the first 2 sealants mentioned.

FMJ applies easier than the UPP, comes off with even greater ease and has no cleaners in it. So as for now YES the FMJ is at the moment my favorite sealant to date BUT I have yet to try out the Wolfgang.

I'll do an update when I get those products in later in this week.

Later,

Anthony

Anthony,

Thanks for the quick reply! Let me know what you think about the Wolfgang when you get a chance.

Scott,

Are you out there? Let me know about your opinion of both of these sealants.

Thanks again guys! :D

Cheers,

My son earns a little extra money around the 'hood just washing and waxing--for people who don't really care--I gave him the Wolfgang Auto Bathe and sealant. He asked me to get more. Got extra tips and said it went on easy, came off easy, looks great. Funny to get his feedback (13 years old). He's tried practically everything out of the old garage!

Anthony - I just used FMJ along with the new Menzeran glaze with excellent results on a black car. I did notice a couple of things with FMJ.

1) It spreads much easier layered on top of Power glaze.

2) It was easier to alternate layers of glaze, then FMJ compared to layering FMJ on top of itself (i.e glaze, FMJ,glaze, FMJ).

3) A little FMJ goes a long way, and comes off reeaaaaal easy.

4) The glaze has a slow curing time and works good by hand or with a polisher. Either way be prepared to really work it.

Andrew-FMJ seems to continue the real clear look of the Euro version of Menzerna FP, kind of a dipped in salad oil look. Wolfgang has a more creamy, carnauba look.

:up Thanks so much for the heads up on the Glaze and how it works with the FMJ, appreciate that!

I can't wait to get my stuff in, in fact I raced home today to see if the UP's man had come but that's a negative:(

Also, welcome to the board BLKTA:D

Thanks for the welcome. It's nice to have serious product to really wake up the paint. I used Zaino and 3M for years before using Menzerna and really liked it. Then I used Menzerna (IP, FP, glaze and FMJ) and can't believe the difference. Of course a Porter Cable 7424 helps. :)

Here is a picture of the rear bumper after glaze and FMJ. Notice how the "embossed" Pontiac logo reflects into the paint on the top bumper cover. The picture does no justice; when you squat down and look right at the bumper you can read the upside down logo reflecting in the paint with perfect clarity like it was embossed on the top bumper. Keep in mind this is 6 year old factory GM paint. Picture was taken about 5-6 feet away.

Why not? My two boys have been helping me since they were 9 and 11. In fact, it was my older son who did the polishing and waxing on that BMW M1 I had to detail around Christmas time.
