hey everybody, im a newb here at detailcity.. but over at autopia.org, smprince1 told me to re-post over here about my problem saying i'd probably get more help. so here it is:

i was just about finished with dacp/orange edge 2k pad on a benz when my pc got super wobbly and really hard to control. took the pad off the edge adaptor and squeezed to find that the backing plate in the middle was all melted and deformed =(.. as opposed to buying a backing plate and velcro pads, i just bought one of these to save money. it was supposed to be more versatile with its two sides and its durable durafoam. but now im actually wasting money because both useable sides and a backing plate are gone. i checked all of my pads and they all seemed to be in almost the condition as the orange pad but not as bad. overall im not really satisfied at all. i dont think im doing anything wrong. do you guys think so? theyve only been used on 2 cars before this, and i'd expect them to last a lot longer if not forever.. i need new pads ASAP but i cant really afford to put a bigger hole in my wallet. i think im gonna call edge tomorrow. if you guys have any tips or advise that would be great, thanks for listening...

yep, thanks!

Contacting Edge ASAP is your best plan of action. Don't do anything else like continuing to use the pads, put them away and wait till you talk to Edge.

Just curious, what speed did you have the machine on? Did you ever have it up all the way to 6?

other than one the green one which has some tears in the foam, they look like normal. its the plate inside the pad which isnt. they are severely warped. thats why the pad doesnt spin correctly at all..

Feel free to contact Edge, they will send pads directly to you right away and find out what went wrong. Better solution than letting the shop you buy from figure out what went wrong is letting the Manufacturer address the issue!

Aaron @ The Edge is awesome and has great Customer Service.

Weird, I always have mine on 5-6 as its really the only way to get good work/breakdown with a PC instead of a rotary. No problems after all teh use with my Edge 2K pads. However, lately there have been a few threads made on various forums with people having their PC's basically overheat or generate way more heat then normal causing problems with the unit and pads (some machines were reported to start smoking). So that could be the case.

please contact us ASAP at 1-800-315-3343. I am away but
Saul can help you. I wonder if you could tell me what color the glue is inside the pads. I am sure that you did not melt the plate because that does not melt until you get to about 400f! It sounds like you may have an older version of the pads with white glue and you are mistaking the melted glue for melted plate. Either way we will replace any defective pads so you don't have to worry about that hole in your wallet. haha.

Aaron

Thanks Aaron, i called Saul today and i hope you guys find out what happened (maybe it wasnt the plate afterall). just wanted to let you guys know you have excellent customer service, thanks again!!

btw does anybody have anymore info on pcs generating more heat than usual? i think this might be the cause. when changing pads, i usually have to use a mf towel over my fingers to push down on the edge adaptor cause it gets so hot that it burns your fingers..
