will the Scratch X be ok to use on a metallic car...

since i heard its a mild abrasive??

and metallic cars have a clear coat on them with the metallic in (so i heard) and if you use anything abrasive it can remove this clear coat of metallic paint...

So will scratch x be ok to use??

thanks very much

this is what i plan on buying

Meguiar's Scratch X (207ml)

Meguiar's Gold Class Car Wash Shampoo and Conditioner (1892ml)

Meguiar's Gold Class Clear Coat Liquid Wax (473ml)

Meguiar's Foam Applicator Pads (4 pack)

Meguiar's NEW IMPROVED Ultimate Wipe

PS: would i be better of swapping all the gold glass things for NXT?, the Meguiar's car clinic said the gold class would be best for my car though, thanks in advance :)

Hi PZR, welcome to Autopia! :welcome

Yes, it's perfectly fine to use Scratch-X and other mild abrasive products on metallic paints. Don't worry about that.

Try doing a search for NXT and Gold Class to see what people think. They are reasonably similar products in terms of what they are meant to do, however. I wouldn't sweat too much about it... a lot of people are still using it.

Don't forget: Search and the Learn! link at the top if you haven't checked that out already. :)

Hi PZR,

Did the someone at a clinic tell you Gold Class would be the best for your car? or did the Meguiar's Rx Prescription, list Gold Class as the best.

The reason I ask is because the Rx Prescription hasn't been updated to include new products yet. It is in the works.

Also, here's a how-to article on using ScratchX,

How to remove a defect by hand with ScratchX

Just to note, ScratchX uses a microscopic diminishing abrasive, so while it will remove fine scratches, it will not scratch the paint. The how-to article will explain more.

Great link Mike. No wonder I couldn't get those scratches out with Scratch X and end up using my DACP. Now, I know.

Hey, 4DSC!

Not sure if you remember me but you also helped me a lot back in 2002 when I was just starting out. You gave me advice on DACP, Klasse etc. Now, I am almost dangerous enough to know what I am doing.

Thanks,

Ricky

I heard that before! I guess Meg. needs to put the real money where the keyboard is (I heard it since... ). :nixweiss

I don't beleive (I am 90% sure thought) that the metallics are in the clear - they are in the paint layer - my car is antharcite grey metallic and I have used scratch X no problemo :)

It is a work in progress, it is a huge job because it involves inputting a lot of information, not just adding new products. It's been completely revamped and I think most people will be impressed when it goes live. I've seen the new graphical interface and it's pretty cool.

I'm glad it's not my job... ;)
