Meguiars on my 57 bel air

Hi,



First time posting. :)



I have always used Classic carnuba wax on my 57 Bel Air street rod. The car is black with flames. It is garage kept and driven to shows or cruising on weekends.



I would like to try the Meguiars products this summer rather than just the Classic hard wax.



I was planning to apply in the following order:



1) #9 swirl remover

2) #7 show car glaze

3) #26 wax



After the #26 is applied what should be used as on-going maintenance? Or do I rinse and repeat?

Welcome to Autopia!



First of all, are you applying all of these products by hand?



Also, if your 57 has a base/coat clear coat finish, you might be happier switching to the #81 Hand Polish instead of the #7 Show Car Glaze.



As for wax, if it were mine, I would apply two coats of Meguiar’s new NXT Tech Wax. It looks flat out awesome on black paint, or any paint for that matter.



You wouldn't by chance in the SoCal area? I would love to have you bring that car to one of our Saturday Detailing clinics here at Meguiar’s.

After you clean, polish and apply your choice of wax, you typically want to maintain your finish using a quick detailer and regular washing when necessary. Meguiar’s also makes two different Spray Waxes that work well for finishes that already have a good coat of wax.



I would recommend a Grit Guard for your wash bucket. And only use wash mitts that are new or in excellent condition on a finish in excellent condition.

p.s.



Most Meguiar’s waxes, like #26 Hi-Tech Yellow Wax, Gold Class Wax and the new NXT Tech Wax will enrich the color of most paints, usually better than any standard carnauba wax. If you have a black finish with a flame job you definitely want to look into one of these three products.

Thanks for the advice! Actually, I'm in the Chicago area.



Yes, I would be applying by hand.



So are you suggesting only applying the two coats of NXT Tech Wax and nothing else? or apply #7/#81 and then the two coats of NXT Tech Wax?



BTW, the corvette looks great...

Hi Tom,



If your finish is pretty good shape to start with, and it looks like it is, then I would apply the #9 Swirl Remover 2.0 by hand using a foam applicator pad. This is a very gentle cleaner/polish and it will help to mildly clean the surface of any contaminants and prepare the surface for application of wax.



If you haven't tried the NXT Tech Wax, then I would whole heartedly recommend it to you. Apply two coats for maximum coverage and uniform gloss and protection. If you can, wait till the next day to apply the second coat, if not then apply them back to back. Two thin coats always looks better than one coat.

ouch, the day my dad finally finished his 48 merc woodie. He brought it home on a flat bed. Drove it litterally around the block to show a friend. On his way back turning down our street some drunk hit him and totalled it. Had to start all over. All of the wood was destroyed except for the front doors :(
