Meguiar's NXT Tech Wax Paste - Reviewed

I meant using NXT, since I find it very hard to apply. Maybe I was exaggerating a little, using NXT paste it will probably take me 15 min to apply. I do it in half the time with an easier product to apply such as S100 or FMJ.

Ah, my bad, sorry for the confusion.

Anyway, depending on the residue issue, I'll decide on the purchase.

I agree, S100/P21S and Pinnacle are like butter, goes on and off very quick and easy.

Is there the same amount of paint cleaning/light polishing/swirl mark covering abilities as the liquid in the paste version?

I don't understand the durability issues. I've put NXT tech wax (liquid) on for the first time last November, by March I rewaxed but the finish still was smooth, water beaded up and doing the squeak test showed that wax was still there. I just redid it because it does look best when first applied. I did my wife's silver CR-V with the paste tech wax and for me it was harder to apply, stickier, didn't glide on as smooth and I couldn't get as thin a coat as with the liquid so it did take me longer to remove and it dusted a little. It does seem to dry a little quicker but not a high priority for me. As for look or feel, to me it felt the same, liquid or paste so it's a application preference.

If durability is an issue for you and you like the tech wax shine, get #21, it's a combination of tech wax and #20 paint sealant and it's a commercial product. The downside is you have to buy it larger quantities than NXT tech wax.

i got a noobie question here for NXT. can i layer another coat of NXT right after im doen with the first coat or do i have to wait like i do with #26? i guess i should give it a try since i need a sealent ASAP. thanks for the review! i plan on doing NXT x 2 and #26 x 2 on the QX4 and MPV when i get the PC and do a full detail.

You might be confused with the NXT Tech Wax (liquid) which contains cleaners. This paste wax, on the other hand, doesn't.

Why do you say the paste version does not contain cleaners? I'm sure I've read a post where Mike Phillips states the durability and cleaning power between the paste and liquid version is identical.

quote from this post by Mike Phillips

meguiars online about topping and layering NXT

"On the subject of how long to wait before applying a second, or third coat of NXT Tech wax, or apply a different wax over the top of an initial coat of NXT Tech Wax, I spoke with our Vice President of Research and Development and here is what he said.

For maximum protection and beauty, it would be best to allow approximately 12 hours to pass to insure all of the synthetic polymers to fully set-up. He explained that in some areas, the polymers will cure and set-up sooner, while some polymers will cure and set-up later. Because there is no way to measure or know when all of the polymers have fully, and completely set-up, he said for maximum performance, you should allow a window of time, approximately 12 hours to pass."

The above is a guideline for the most detailed oriented, serious enthusiasts that enjoy polishing the paint on their cars and don't mind spending this kind of time on their car's finish."

many people assume the cleaners are strong enough to remove the previous layer even tho Mike Philips states that the cleaners aren't strong enough to remove a previous layer that has cured-NXT liquid and a couple coats of Booster lasted all winter on my Mom's camaro outside 24/7.

In my experience very few waxes last that long. I got only 6-7 weeks on the wife's car.

I applied the liquid version of NXT to my sister's car and it was dead after 4-5 weeks (paint had been clayed and heavily polished prior, so it was a very clean surface). Poor results and durability with the liquid have kept me from trying the paste version. My opinion is that Meguiar's has always been good at marketing and NXT Tech Wax just proves it.

Flame suit on.

I know that Gold Class liquid doesn't last long at all. I've just started to use the NXT paste so I can't tell yet about durability. I know I was disappointed with Gold Class when I switched to that in search of a better wax several years ago.

Here are some of my experiences with NXT paste wax:

-1st layer looks ho-hum, I was regreting putting it on top of my 6 layers of SG

-QDing after application improves things a bit but not as much as...

-allowing the NXT to cure for a day. It continued to improve for a week if let alone to cure.

-layering works, 3rd layer was a charm

-application was very easy, easier than S100 by virtue of just allowing it to be applied to the whole car and then buffed off as a whole (S100 has to be removed a panel at a time continuously alternating between applicator and buffing towel).

-durability is good but it loses its shine sooner

-Speed Detailer, an otherwise so-so QD, is the best with NXT paste wax, better than EO or even Sonus Acrylic Spritz on NXT

-water sheeting is very good when washing

-NXT paste hides swirls (but not as good at it as S100 SEPC and S100 wax combo)

Overall, on a scale of 10, 10 being the best, it's at least a 7.6 and an 8.9 at its best. My fave is Klasse twins/Souveran and that would be about a 9.5. Klasse twins with SGx6 is about a 9.0 to 9.4. The main appeal of NXT is the ability to get excellent results without much effort.
