Meguiars new cordless buffer

Does anyone have one of these? I'm thinking of getting it. Costs $100 I think. I don't know if I want to spend $300 on a PC so this might be my other option.

You can get a PC 7336 at Lowe's for $109. Mine came with a white foam pad, so you can use it the day you buy it. You will probably want to add a velcro backing plate and more pads.

I happened to get Meguiar's backing plate and pads and am very happy with them.

You can search, which I'm sure will be suggested, or just go to the articles forum and read the really great Porter Cable thread by 4DSC.

Oh yeah, the general thought seems to be that the cordless unit lacks power for serious polishing. At least one member felt it was worth the money just for the convenience in applying some products. I don't think it is a replacement for the PC, though.

I purchased the 7336SP locally, and pretty much went straight over to a local paint supply store to get the rest of my supplies. The W64DA backing place fits the 7336, and the pads just velcro right onto that. :up

Now if I could figure out how to actually USE this thing... and then wouldn't ya know? It's winter.

To add a little perspective... I just recieved the Meg cataloque in today's mail.

The Meg Cordless is orbital, 6 1/2 inch dia... and costs $99.95. Uses their WDVAB99B foam pad (which seems to be Velcro backed)

Meg's also sells the Porter Cable RO Buffer for $225.95 - uses the same WDVAB99B foam pad.

Since their price for the PC is about $115 higher than some, I have to wonder about the value of the Cordless??? I do admit that 1.5 hours of cordless buffing would be cool!

I, too, am looking for further information.

Intermezzo posted the info that it was a relabeled Nikota. I don't know where it is available other than Meguiar's at this time.

I'm looking at the POrter cable 7424 on classic motoring accessories and its on sale for $149.95. Is this the one most of you PC users have? I should just get this one instead. Forget the $225 PC that Meguiars sells or the cordless. Are there other porter cable buffers besides the 7424?

The following info is from 4DSC's most excellent thread on Porter Cable Accessorizing in the Autopia Articles Forum. Basically, the 7242, 7335, and 7336 are the same unit. The differences, as outlined in the thread, seem to be in the counterweights and pads that come with the different models. The thread is well worth reading in its entirety.

From 4DSC's Thread:

"Model 7424 polisher includes 5 inch counterweight, 6 inch polishing pad 54745 *

Model 7424SP sander/polisher includes 5 inch counterweight, 6 inch polishing pad 54745, 5 inch sanding pad 13700, Meguiar's cleaner wax

Model 7335 sander includes 5 inch counterweight, 5 inch sanding pad 13700

Model 7336SP sander/polisher includes 6 inch counterweight, 6 inch sanding pad 16000, 6 inch polishing pad 54745, possibly wax also

Models 97355 and 97366 are just the 7335 and 7336 with dust collection parts"
