Meguiar's Gold Class Paste Wax?

Has anyone tried it? I'm sitting here at work (bored out of my mind, I might add) and I found an old copy of Sport Compact Car at my desk. Its the July 2001 edition. Anyway, there is a detailing section in it and it shows Meguiar's Gold Class Paste Wax. I've never seen it and was wondering how it stacked up to the likes of Blitz or even Pinnacle. Has anyone tried it?

Ok, I just read the write up on detailing.... Man, what a bunch of morons. "Dish soap is for washing dishes. Never use it on your car." Not exactly a direct quote but that is what it said. They even said that it removes wax from your car. It would only be a bad thing if you didn't want it to do that. In which case you would use something else anyway. Over all I would say it was a pretty poorly written article with very little value. All it did was state the obvious and gloss over the real deal.

"Use a sheepskin mitt. It will scratch your car less than would a towel." Like I care!! I want to use the product that dosen't scratch <em class='bbc'>at all![/i] The least of two evils isn't really what I had in mind.

"The best (products) for 2001 come from Armor All." Bwhahwahahahawhahaahwahhahahawhahahahhahawhahahahahhwhahahahhwhawhahhahahawhawhawhawhaw!!

The good thing is that they plug the Absorber and Meguiar's products to no end. At least they did something right. I'm suprised that the article wasn't better written than it was. Oh well....

Quite a few automagz I read tend to have odd non-ad plugs for meguiars products. Sports Compact Car's "Off the shelf" section seams to have alot of raves for detailing products that are nothing special. Recently they raved about how great the new Meguiars wipes are.

I have a tin sitting right next to me.

It goes on easy and comes off nicely, a little easier than buffing dry SG with a terry towel (SG allowed to dry for an hour on a 85 degree day with 10% humidity.)

The shine is FANTASIC on a dark colored car. It cleans the paint like AIO.

The durability is SAD! It doesn't last more than 4 weeks. I'll eye ball it at 2-3 weeks on a daily driver. 2 weeks on a car outside 24/7.

If the surface is prepared and nice, Blitz it.

I would recommend Gold Class Paste if you wax often and don't mind some white residue.

carguy is a fan of Gold Class wax, not sure if he uses the paste or liquid. I tried the liquid out today, works ok, but then just used the Souveran on the rest of the car. The GC streaked a little on the hood, but it was a hot and humid day. I got a nice tan. The results, GC and Souveran had a similar look, but Souveran was soooooooo much easier to work with.

Heres a picture (NY Detailer and I detailed it.) (hood GC, rest Souveran, surface prep, 2X Foam pad Machine glaze with Meguiars red foam cutting pad and PC)

Was disappointed. It looks almost as good as Souveran, but was tough to remove ... probably because I applied too much. I needed four terry towels to remove all the dried material. Water beads, but not as much as expected. It actually seems a bit oily to the touch.

:) I just picked up a tin today while I was at Kmart(30% off- worth a try, eh??). Anyway, I've heard it gives a deep, wet gloss like souveran, but doesn't last more than a month:(

But I don't mind that upkeep(especially when it's 10x cheaper than the souveran!!). I'll try it out soon and post a review!!

Honestly, I don't think Gold Class shines as well as Meguiars #26, it certainly doesn't last as long and it will stain plastic trim and can dust up a lot if you use too much. Now that I have used Souveran, I can say that the shine from Gold Class is not nearly as wet as Souveran. GC leaves a nice wet gloss, but it isn't as deep and shimmery as Souveran.

Besides, when geekysteve did the testing in the first round at www.thewaxtest.org , #26 did the best overall of all Meguiars waxes, and in my experiences with Meguiars (I am an avid user of their Body Shop Professional line-as paint prep products go, I have yet to find their equal), #26 is the best wax they have, followed closely by #20 Polymer.

I think it is one of Brian's tire dressing's on the tire. No Touch tire dressing? I forgot, maybe Brian can chime in.

EDIT: Yes it was Brian's spray grape tire dressing. No silicones, safe for tires, a good high gloss tire dressing that can be matte if buffed down.

I use Gold Class paste wax on my bike

waxing a bike is somewhat diffrent then a car , because in less than 15 minutes it's waxed.I then wait an hour and buff.I don't have to worry about durabillity 'cause I put on another layer whenever I feel like it, it takes no time...

So far I'm pleased with the results : on a bike I'm rubbing with my leather costume against the fuel tank.

Before I knew anything about waxing ,the tank had matte parts from the leather.I polished them out with Meguiars swirl and scrath remover and waxed it with MGCPW(meguiars gold class paste wax).

No more matte spots since then and I ride the bike daily : a single trip to work is approx half an hour ( by car it's more than double).

For me MGCPW can stay on the bike::xyxthumbs

:up Just tried it out on my mom's van, and all I can say is WOW:shocked

I didn't expect it to be that great, that was, until I put it on the black painted mirrors!!

It left them totally wet looking, and yes, dare I say, Souveran-ny!

I catch myself staring at them sometimes when I'm Zing the PT!!

It doesn't seem that durable, but it beads well(not nearly as well as Z).

It would be great on a dark car(if someone didn't want to spring for $ouveran and didn't mind waxing monthly!!)

After 2 weekly washings, it still looks great with good beading.

I believe that I "over-waxed" it with the liguid wax, and that led to the increased material removal issue and oily feel.

User error!! :D
