Meguiars clay kit from Walmart?

I have been looking for a good source of clay on the net and it seems most places carry a single bar for about $20 plus shipping. At my local walmart, they have a meguiars kit with 2 bars of clay, a bottle of clay lube, and a microfiber towel for $17.

I wanted to know what you guys thought of this deal.

IMO Claymagic is a much better clay. I am a big Meguiars fan, but their clay is just not nearly as good. Its hard and not nearly as sticky as it should be. I find I have to keep it in a bucket of hot water to keep it pliable.

It is indeed, but they aren't all the same.

oh yeah i understand that they have different grades and strengths. I just thought all of the otc clays were the same except for the claymagic red

This is correct, however the bars that come with the kit are i believe 50gram pieces. The ones on the net are usually bigger (100 or 200 gram). Kit's not bad mind you, I purchased one last fall after buying two new cars, but think for mass purchases getting stuff of the net will probably be cheaper for you in the long run.

After a long 1,500 mile freeway trip I found my ride needed a claying. Being out of town, I grabbed a Meg's Smooth Surface kit and it did a nice job. Most of my contamination was general road grime and was acquired on this trip. The contamination came off easily and left the paint feeling silky smooth. Not a bad clay but YMMV depending on what is stuck to your paint.

its an ok boxed set. you get 2 50gram pieces of clay so its equivalent to the 100gram larger bars that are sold except its already separated for ease of use and packaged separately, plus comes in a plastic case to protect/hold the clay. I also like that it comes with a MF for wiping off the lube for those who are just getting into detailing their own cars.

but as yakky said, the clay is very "tough", I have to roll it in my hands for a good 10-15 minutes before use just to get it warm enough to reshape it for use, this is after sitting in an 80+* garage. the clay is rated as "mild" so there is a trade off for the price of the higher 'graded' bars.

I bought a bunch of it off another forum member (wonder why he was dumping it! :D) and yeah, I'm stuck with it. But get a bucket of really hot water and use two pieces, keep one in the water, then swap. It makes it nice and workable, almost like clay magic.

its weird (maybe the way im storing them?) but ive had the opposite experience. my claymagic bar is very hard- i have to use 2 hands to mold it (or maybe just a fluke box).
