i have been reading through this forum for the past week now and love it, great info. now i just started getting into detailin this past year. i have picked up a pc 7424 with lake county pads and mostly meguiars products (#83, #82,#7and #26) i have had great success with these but have been reading about pinnacle souveran paste wax and it is something i want to use. now my question is, what steps should i do before applying the souveran?

here are some pics of what i have accomplished with the megs line up

Cars look excellent, welcome to Autopia! :welcome

Souveran is a very nice looking topper, and you don't need to anything more than you are doing right now. Just polish and protect as usual, wait 24 hours and then top it with Souveran. Just keep in mind that Souveran is for looks and looks alone. It won't last very long, so be prepared to reapply fairly often.

Good luck! :grinno:

thanks, i dont mind re-applying. i polished my car about 4 months ago and the swirls and what not is not bad at all. i had to get my rear fender repainted about 2 months ago so i havent really been cleanin my car that much, been sitting in the garage. when i go to detail it, this is what im gonna do:

dawn

meguiars clay w/ quik detailer

wash with megs deep crystal soap

polish with #82 lake county white polishin pad

now should i just apply the souveran or apply #7 glaze

also, when applyin pinnacle, how long between coats? also, you say polish and protect as usual so are you saying apply the #26 before the pinnacle?

That sounds fine, but there's no need for Dawn. You can just use your regular car shampoo.

As far as applying #7 prior to Souveran or not, is purely your decision. I'd suggest trying with #7 on one fender and without on another fender to see what you like better.

If you don't find #82 taking out the defects to your liking, you might want to switch to #80. I find #80 can be too mild for even the lightest defects, so I reserve #82 for those tiny little touch ups every now and then, and use #80 and #83 for pretty much everything else.

When dealing with waxes, some say they are layerable and some say they aren't. I, personally, don't bother layering, but just reapply every two to four weeks instead.

Sure, you can apply some #26 prior to Souveran if you want to, but it really isn't necessary. I like to use a sealant if I'm topping with a carnauba.

Keep in mind, there is no right or wrong here. You can put Souveran on top of *anything*, and it will look good. The only time you want to be crucial with the process is during the polishing phase, and if you are dealing with sealants because they need a proper base to work as intended.

isnt the #80 less mild than the #82? if #82 isnt takin out the defects, i go to #83 with an orange cutting pad and then back to #82

No, Meg's numbering system is kind of goofy. Here's the order for the "80 series" polishes from least to most aggressive: #81, #82, #80, #83

#81 is a pure polish, the rest are considered cleaner/polishes

As a note, I personally find that all Meg's polishes are extremely mild. Even #83 leaves a LSP ready finish after I'm done, and I find it to be not strong enough for really tough jobs. #80 is perfect for all maintenance details, and I couldn't really imagine needing anything milder than that, unless you are showing the car or something.

I originally bought a 32oz bottle of each "80 series" polish, but quickly found absolutely no use for #81 and #82.

I know what you mean Jason I have big bottles of #83, #81, #80. With all of the new polishes out there (Sonus, Optimum, Poorboys) I find myself rarely using Megs polishes anymore. Might have to break them out soon to retry.

I ran out of shelf space in my garage and have a bix box with detailing products and accessories I have yet to use. It's really a shame. Addicted you say?? Nahhhh. :grinno:
