Meguiars 3 step and NXT

Hi all new to the forum. I've been searching but haven't found any info on how to use the meguairs 3 step method including using nxt. I'm not sure if I should put the nxt on before the meg 3 carnuba wax, or after. I've been using the nxt by itself and was wanting to try something that would help bring my truck alive. I have a 2005 f150 supercrew dark stone color. I'm new to the detailing and my first wax I used was the NXT. My truck is only 2 months old so not sure what all i need to do or not to do. Do I just need to wax it, or do I need to do the whole clay, cleaner, polish wax thing. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also any suggestions in OTC products would be great. Thanks

If the truck is only 2 months old I dont think you will need to use the Meguairs 3 step process just yet. The NXT wax does give a good look, but it does not offer the long term protection that some of the others do. Clay and paint cleaners are made for removing paint problems. I would use the 2nd step of the system which is pure polish, and then apply the NXT. There is no need to apply both waxes.

Cool thanks, I really appreciate it. So I guess putting a carnuba on top of the nxt is worthless. I thought since the carnuba's seem to give u the wet shine look that it would be good to put on top of the synthetic. Which otc gives the best long term protection?

'Carnauba' and 'long term protection' don't really go together. If you are looking for a product off the shelf that will give you long term looks and protection then you have to go with a synthetic like NXT.

I don't agree that a new vehicle isn't worthy of a three step process. I spent 5 hours on my car the day after I got it home. Just because a vehicle is brand new doesn't mean it is clean. After all, they call it 'rail dust' for a reason. It is still a good idea to clay, polish, and protect at the very least. As far as good OTC products, here are some tips and product suggestions you might find handy.

If your going to take the time to detail your car you should not skip any steps. I give my car a full detail once a month. The Meg's 3 step process does a hell of a job. I've been using #26 with carnuaba, but I'm going to be switching back to NXT tech wax next week when I do a full detail again.

New cars should be clayed. There are rail dust fragments and contaminants already on the paint. Even without it, a 3 step system is key, and buffing will remove some of the natural roughness of a new paint. IMHO

Ski, I Have Used The Three Step Process Several Times And With Great Results. If You Have The Time Do Use All Three. All I Was Trying To Say Is If The Truck Was New And You Have Never Waxed The Vehicle Im Sure A Good Soap Would Do The Same As The Cleaner. I Have Used The Meg Polish After A Good Wash And Gotten The Same Results. The Polish That Is The 2nd Step Is Great For Any Time You Are Ready To Shine The Car Up. I Wasnt Trying To Teach You To Skip Any Steps, But There Are Several Polishes Out There That Dont Fall Under Some Step Process. Because They Are Step 1 - Step3 Dosen't Mean That Step2 Will Not Work Without Step 1 Or 3. I Will Use Step Two And Not Use Step Three But A Wax Like Nxt Or Nattys. It Is Your Vehicle And You Will Come Up With A Process That U Like. We All Have Are Own Ways Of Doing Things, But As The Last Threads Have Stated If You Have A Paint Problem, Clay Or Use Whatever It Takes To Fix The Problem. Good Luck

Even using the specific Meguiar's brand products isn't necessary for the '3 step process' to work. As long as you clean the paint (I use AIO for that), polish the paint (I use SSR1 or 2 for that usually), and then wax or seal the paint (currently using Wolfgang as my product of choice) then you are still doing the famous process. Remember... it isn't the '3 step product'. It's the '3 step PROCESS'. You can do the process with any product you want as long as the Clean - Polish - Protect steps are covered.

I agree with that for sure. The vehicle must be prepared before protection. This is a little off of topic , but have you had a chance to use the opt polish or the opt compound and if so how do they compare to the ssr1 and 2. I'm getting my first bottle of opt compound sometime this week and was wanting to give the ssr1 and 2 a shot later this month.

I'm still new to the Poorboy products actually. I just started using them this year after someone sent me some samples. Needless to say full sized bottles will be on my next supply order. I'm not easily impressed, but these are good products.
