Megs Polish

I am doing a buddy's '93 Misubishi POS truck this weekend. The paint is pretty wasted but all he wanted to do is make it shine a lot better than it does. I have been using Mothers Power Polish and like but but I am thinking that I might need something more aggressive. Which of the Megs polishes would be best?

Do you have a rotory and/or a PC?

If you have ether of those #83 and/or #80 are safe and work well. If you are doing it by hand try some scratchX.

With a PC, I would go for the #83 and #80 combo mentioned above - these work effectively by PC. With the #83, be sure to throughly work the product and I dont personally like to take the PC abive speed 5 when using it as I find that it dries the polish out too quickly and it doens't effectively break down - small areas, 18" sqaure max, spread on speed 2/3 and then several passes on speed 5 with medium pressure until the residue goes clear (can take a good few minutes of continual slow passes, takes a nice long time to break down :) )... That way I have found I got the best from #83.

If working by PC, I wouldn't be tempted to go for anything more aggressive from the Megs range... I have tried #84 by PCV but found it wasn;t really breaking down effectively with the PC, though worked an absolute treat on the rotary. Also, if the paint is wasted, take care that its also not very thin after prveious machine polishing that may have occured.

If its oxidized pretty bad, just grab some colorx. Its a strong chemical cleaner. I think too many people waste too much time or use too agressive of a product on beat finishes. IMO a polish or compound is great for leveling the surface is there are scratches, but heavy cleaners are way better (faster) for beat paint.

Well the clear coat has gone away on part of the hood. So I am not too worried about it as a whole. Just want to break down the swirl and scratches and get it looking semi normal again. He is not interested in painting it at all. Just wants to see what I can do with it.

Don't forget the newly reformulated (now works by PC/hand as well as by rotary) version of #2 Fine Cut. The older version(s) had some potent chemical cleaners in them and I'd take an admitedly wild guess that the new version does too. Might work out better than the #83 (or it might not :nixweiss ).
