Megs cutting pad...

picked 1 up today. How aggressive would this pad be with Mothers PowerPolish? Would it need to be followed with a polishing pad?
 
I have used this on my old pitted scratched GM dark blue metallic/clear, and some horribly oxidized SS Ford red, both with DACP, without following with a finer pad or polish, but I wasn't looking for perfect results, either. I used a PC and didn't have any hazing problems, either, despite warnings from Mike Phillips that I would ruin my paint and have to have it recovered with a rotary.
 
Oh, you haven't used Meg's pads before? The polishing pad is pretty soft, but you can do correction with it, given enough pressure and compound.
 
We were talking to Mike Phillips about that the other day. He wasn't surprised that a lot of guys use the maroon pad with the PC and get good results but Meguiars' official stance is that since some percentage of people would haze their finish they won't recommend it.



Even if it just takes a follow up pass with the yellow pad to fix it I guess their position is that they won't recommend any process that might have a negative effect that would have to be undone.



The other problem, although not at all common, is that for some finishes that scratch easily but are hard to buff out you could end up with hazing that would need a rotary to reasonably remove. Personally, I think those cases would be very rare.

I've never used the Megs pads with an orbital. I've used SM Arnold pads with my rotary and those are fairly soft. I also picked Nikota pads up at BigLots and they seemed similar to the Megs polishing pads in stiffness. I'm assuming that if I use the cutting pad to not apply much pressure. Just let the pad and product do the work.
 
I've used Meg's burgandy pad on my black Hemi several times to remove sanding marks or serious marring. I used DACP and had no problems with hazing. I followed up with a Meg's polishing pad and DACP just to be sure . It's darned hard to mess up with a pc and any kind of pad and polish combination. Just set it at 4.5 and hang on. :D

Forrest has said that a cutting pad with MPP will leave no hazing, but on a dark car it should be followed up by a polishing pad for extra gloss. I've heard about SSR2.5 territory for MPP with a cutting pad.

^^^ agreed. actually for light to moderate swirling i use the cutting pad with ocp/occ mix. with no holograms or marring. still followed it up with a final polish with ocp though.
