I tried using #83 today for the first time in about a year. After using the 105/205 combo, its sooo underpowered. Man, what was great before sure seems wimpy now. It has no bite compared to 105 and finishes out much worse! Made me realize how much I like the new polishes.
 
#83 has a cut of 6 and #105 has a cut of 12 so I don't see why it should be compared to with #105 in terms of cut. It was marketed as #83/#80 so now its not supposed to leave a "nice" finish, that's what the #80 step does. I still keep my bottle of #83 on the shelf.

I had that very discussion with a few detailers recently. I brought up the same argument as well. The level of cut is different in comparison, and the price is much different as well. The M105 is so user friendly it just outright performs on many levels. The M205 compliments the M105 very well and is meant to be the finishing polish that follows.



M105/M205 is the new combination from what I have been told and I intend to try it out before going the #83/#80 route.

For cut levels, you are right, they should not be compared. However, they are the defacto two step polish now where 83/80 used to be. I can do in 1 pass what took 4 before, hence removing the same amount of swirl takes 1/4 of the time. And in all honesty, I could probably just throw a wax right on top of 105 for lighter colored cars. So to me, 83/80 is now a has been. Am I going to throw my 83 out? Maybe...
