MEG's #7 on New Paint

Well, I have had my car out of the body shop for about 2 weeks now, drove it very little, and washed it today for the first time. My question is, how often should I apply the Meg's #7 on the new paint?

I know that I can not wax or put a sealant on the new paint, but I want to have at least a little bit of protection on it. I just want to make sure it doesn't get damaged by contaminents when I drive, i.e. bugs, bird sh!t, etc...

Thanks for the help!:xyxthumbs

I think 3M Imperial Hand Glaze would be a better choice for fresh paint for slight protection, not #7.

You may even be able to use #80 if you want protection.

I'd first ask your paint guy and see what he says.

You can use a glaze as often as you want. It provides minimal protection so if you drive it often you may need to apply a glaze weekly after your wash.

After getting frustarted with using #7 you may want to consider Mothers Sealer and Glaze...same look and protection but about 10 times easier to use.

Use the glaze every time you wash.

Not to :argue with the IHG aficionados (gee Spilchy, I guess we can't agree on *everything* under the sun :D ), but I've done side-by-side comparisons of IHG and Meg's "pure polishes" (#3/#5/#7) on fresh paint. I *vastly* prefer the Meg's products. Much slicker, better looking, and, at least under my conditions, longer lasting. But hey, it's just personal preference...

Of all the above, I like the Meg's #5 the best. Very similar to #7 (and #3 for that matter) but more user-friendly as it "dries" instead of "skins". I actually *enjoy* using this stuff, but then I've been using it since forever (think "decades"); it's one of my very favorite detailing products.

And they don't call #5 "New Car Glaze" for nothing ;) It was specifically designed for paint that's still curing.

One final thing- #5 looks good on Audi silver. I used it on Accumulatorette's A8 after having the front bumper cover and lower "hoop" of the hood reshot earlier this year.

The #80 is a good product, but I wouldn't use it unless you need its abrasives. I've even had fresh paint (RM brand b/c) that was too soft for #80 during the first few weeks of the curing process. You'll get the same "Meg's glaze" look with the #5.

Heh heh, was that a "hard sell" for #5 or what :o

Actually Accum, #5 IMMEDIATELY popped in to my head when I saw #7 simply based on its ease of use.

HOWEVER, my knowledge of Meguiar's glazes and fresh paint is nil and I know you can use IHG on fresh paint, hence my recommendation

So, we DO agree in a round about way :p

05Sleeper, #5 is more of a "modern" #7 and much easier to use. #7 is wonderous on older, single stage paints. If you're not familiar with #7, it can be a REAL pain to work with.

#5 sounds like a great alternative to #7 on clearcoated paint, much like S&G.

Jason, here's a link that'll save you pulling out your hair with #7. It's a tutorial in the 'Hall of Fame' by Mike Phillips (in the good ol' days when he was a regular on Autopia :( ) on how to apply #7.

I hope it helps. :xyxthumbs

Spilchy and Alfisti- Heh heh, see, we're *still* in agreement after all :D

#5 works well on ss that's in *good condition*. I originally started using it back when all new cars had ss and had to cure before you could wax them. After my first bottle I seldom reached for the #7.

Gotta admit that one additional thing I like about these Meg's products is that the smell of 'em takes me right back to the days when I was still young and immortal.

Alfisti,

Can you repost the Link, I'll be using #7 soon, & I have no experience with it at all. I need all the tutorials I can get.

Thank you,

Thanx spilchy,

I have a black car with lots of marring on 7 yr. old paint. I was gonna use Megs. #7 after #80.

Do you think i should be using #7 considering I have a clear coat and its not a single stage paint.

Is there something as effective yet easier to deal with?

Well, it looks like I am going to be applying it 1-2 times per week for a while. Thank god it is only on the front/rear bumpers...
