Megs 21 v2 - Detailed Questions

Intend to try out this product soon, but looking for some answers before proceeding.

Assuming I've finished using Megs 85, 106FF and 85RD and hv gotten a swirl free

finish, can i go straight to M21 v2? Or do I need to IPA the surface first?

Without IPA'ing, can M21 v2 bond properly?

Can I use Megs yellow foam applicator pad?

Is M21v2 applied using the Klasse SG style? - whisper thin, almost invisible layer?

Do the entire car and buff off? Or do panel by panel?

After buffing off, how long to wait before 2nd layer can be applied?

ie: what's the curing period?

1) Yes, you can go straight to LSP. You do not need to do a total IPA wipedown. M21, like NXT, has light cleaners which will prepare the surface for bonding. The remaining polishing oils you mention should not be a problem. If you were to visit Meguiar's Online, you would learn that the large majority of Megs' users do not do total IPA wipedowns before applying Meguiar's sealants and waxes. On the other hand, if you prefer to do an IPA wipedown, that is fine, too.

2) Yes, a foam applicator pad is fine.

3) Yes, thin layers are best.

4) You can wax the entire car. Allow to haze. Do the swipe test. Then buff off.

5) 12 hours curing time is optimal before applying a second layer.

All the above can be confirmed by a perusal of articles and postings at MOL.

I see the miss understandings of Meguiars NXT and Megs 21 are still about!

I think the OP is asking about version 2 of #21 which is cleaner free as is NXT 2.0 and the original version really only had any real cleaning action when applied by machine.

As for oils, the Meguiars sealants are totally compat. with oils on the surface infact, both can be used over #7 for example which is a very unique oil based glaze.

I am delighted to be corrected, as I do not want to pass on any bad information about anybody's products; but in this case I think I will stand by my original statement, at least until contrary authoritative documentation is provided. That M21 and NXT have very mild cleaners has been explicitly affirmed over at Meguiar's Online on several occasions. I especially refer to these threads:

M21 Cleaning Ability

Abrasives in #21

These cleaners are stated to be very mild, not strong enough, e.g., to remove previously layered waxes or perhaps even a glaze. M21 and NXT are therefore to be clearly differentiated from Meguiar's cleaner waxes, including M20. These mild or light cleaners have been added, so I understand, to aid in the bonding of the sealant. I have not read anywhere that they were removed in the 2.0 formulations of #21 or NXT.

But as I said, I welcome correction. :)

Cheers,

Al

Spot on info, Al!

Gigondaz, even the original #21 was a fantastic product. It had a very characteristic and recognizable "silvery clean" hue in its reflections and cooperated with every color very positively. That's why I wanna try the 2.0 too.

I always apply 2 coat for complete coverage and a 3rd one a day later. It hides minor imperfections pretty well too.

I had very blotchy results from 21 2.0...i have heard good things from a lot of people, i just didnt have any luck. I always do an IPA wipedown..no matter what.

I've had good luck with it. I always do an IPA wipe down before lsp. Put it on thin, the thinner the better. Like Bence said, it hides stuff pretty well.
