Megs #16 Self Cleaning?

I have recently revisted this by PC and 4 inch spot pads after various recommendations to give it another go after about a year. Wa steh must try on here a while back and I never really liked it tbh.

In my revist I felt it didnt add much to the looks, but it is damn is it just not fantastic in the rain. The Clio does not really see rain that often, but when went out evening it was dry. Arrived for the meal the car looked suprisingly clean ( 50 odd mile drive on cold damp roads). Came out to go home and its lashing down, car is beading really well Autoglym EGP x3 and a coat of #16.

left to come home after 10 miles in heavy rain on saoking roads the rain had stopped and motorway was dry. All the water in the next 40 odd miles had a chance to run off the car (@ 70 mph) without so much was a water spot on the upper panels, the lower panels even stayed mostly clean, apart from the tailgate and rear bumper which look trashed (a trait of the car - gets dirty at the back very easily) which I guess had no airflow to remove the water, water spots streak, mud etc, but the rest of the car still looks clean.

Souveran does not do this, I know P21s and S100 do, I think #16 has won me over some more tonight! Anyone else noticed this?

Ha! That's good to know. I just did my mom's beetle last night with AIO/#16 so if it stays relatively clean by rain washing that's a plus for me. That lets me go longer without inducing the wrath of mom to clean her car.

I've had this occur with the Collinite waxes in the rain. Often times cars I used Collinite on; the owners tell me that when they pull in the garage after a rain, the car is dry.

I guess it's a trait of these heavier duty carnauba pastes.

Well it sure pleased me so much I am going to add another layer after a wash this morning.

Seth - yeah was dreading putting the car away wet, but by the time I got home, all dry and spot free apart from the tailgate and rear window!

I think I will be keeping it now mate! :LOLOL

Plus how little I use via pc to do a whole car it will see me through a few winters.

A few pics to show what I mean -

Pre wash, as the the car looked when I took it out the garage this morning.

One cleanish looking car, after 100 odd miles driving, some on wet roads in heavy rain, plus the car had been sat outside the resturant in the poring rain for a couple of hours.

Some caught dirt in the side trims.

Dirty lower half and rear bumper.

The only real dirty problem area.

Note how the dirt stops at the rear quater panels and paint so still spot less. Only the tailgate and rear bumper are dirty.

I am so impressed, washed it after the pics, QD'd with my home made concoction QD which worked fanastically even in the sun with no streaking and threw on a coat of OCW.

I was going to leave it at that but the weather was still great this afternoon, so got the PC out and #16'd the whole car including glass, not after pics as it started to rain!

Both Collinite and #16 do that, which makes them great winter waxes.

Yep, that's one of the reasons I use them. When the self-cleaning starts to drop off, give it a quick, very gentle claying (like with the Sonus Green clay) and then reapply.

What is this homemade QD concoction?

I mentioned it in a mixing prducts thread.

I brought some Sonus Detailing Spritz which I really cant get on with kept on streaking whatever I did. Ended up mixing it with a third Sonus Caranuba Spritz and a third Pinnacle Crsytal Mist. Works a treat and has saved the Sonus Detailing Spritz from the dustbin!

LOL, that reminds me of when my family when to AZ for Xmas a couple years ago. I detailed my dad's Suburban for a Xmas present just before we went. This was my pre-autopia times so I just used Megs Cleaner Wax. When in AZ we went 4 wheeling and got it pretty muddy. On the way back we drove through some harsh rain and drove all the way untill we reached dry and the next stop we made when we got out we were very suprised to see, the Suburban was clean. That was nice because I really was not looking foward to getting all the mud off.

Wow, looks great. My local megs dealer still has #16 in stock 4 cans. I think tomorow I will go and get some more. I keep forgetting how much I like this stuff. I have a black car at the end of the week, would like to use the 16 on it.

I still think lots of other things look better than #16 on Black, but the self cleaning has sold it for me to use over winter.
