MB Dealer Service...

That'll buff right out!
So I recently did a few cars for an MD and his wife. Everything, PDR, touchup and complete Details. Seems the engine cleaning on his 96 MB did not go well. Altho it ran fine when leaving the shop, the engine light soon came on, and it began to run rough. Rather than call me, he took it to the Dealer:

They charged $85 to diagnose the problem (moisture in plugs #4 & #8).

They charged $128 for plugs and wires

They charged $212 to R/R plugs and wires, and dry the area

Total $436 for new plugs! I'm guessing it could have been done in an hour, for about $35 in parts.

What a rip off!

YIKES! Did he realize that may happen or is he extremely mad?

I've had the same experience with the Honda. The Jeep's had no problems yet. The Honda place *always* called to let me know of an impending threat completely unrelated to the reason I gave them my keys. Thus, the dilemma:

1) Do I think they are taking me for a ride and tell them "no." With this, I risk teeing them off and "correcting" something for me so that they can fix it later.

2) Do I tell them "no" because of reason 1) only to find out that the problem was genuine?

Luckily, I found a place that specializes in Japanese cars that will get ALL my business while I have this car!!

Sorry to hear about the botched engine job:(
