Mazda paint

I'm looking to pick up a 2007-2008 MazdaSpeed 3 in the next few weeks. I've found a really nice one...but it's black. I don't mind black, in fact I kinda like it, but I don't want to be frustrated removing swirls and then causing new ones.

:buffing::sosad

Can anyone comment on the hardness of Mazda's black/ clear?

Thanks!

:thx

I think that the hardness is on the harder side of the scale. My speed 6 and my friends speed 6 is on the hard side. Mine is titanium and his is black.

I've got a platinum (silver) Speed6 and the paint is fairly hard on it. I also think it's thin from what I can tell.

So if the paint it hard that means once I get it corrected (bought a PC and pads today!!) the correction will last for a while with correct "autopian" washes and care?

Don't expect "hard clear" to really resist marring. IME it just doesn't work out that way. My Mazda MPV has much softer paint than my Audis, but they are all equally susceptible to marring.

I'll risk being the party pooper here and say that if you're remotely concerned with marring (i.e., not 100% confident that it won't be an issue for one reason or another), then a black daily driver simply isn't for you.

And I thought Mazda 3's had pretty *soft* clear :think: Different Mazdas apparently have different hardnesses of clear, and as best I can tell it's not just a matter of US/Japan manufacture either.

I have a '07 Mazda 3 and I'm with Accumulator, I find it to be on the soft side...if not really soft. Though the speeds may be different than the regular 3's? :nixweiss

Also, I find the paint on my 3 to be VERY thin...do others find this to be the case? I have a pretty decent size rock chip on the hood down to the metal, and looking at the paint thickness it looks to be very thin...

The paint on the MPV sure is thin, like no other vehicle I've ever owned or worked on.
