Mazda CX-9 Plastic Trim Pieces

Hey all,

I just detailed my wifes 2007 CX-9 Liquid Silver Platinum (I know a big way to say silver) this weekend. It has 1,500 miles on it so it didn't need a lot.

It had one clearcoat scratch along the door that I didnt notice when we picked it up. It also had a clearcoat scratch along the roof as well.

I washed it and used OP with Edge white pad and PC, then used DG111 with AW afterwards. I put another coat of AW yesterday on it, I really like this stuff.

I was able to lessen the scratches with the OP and a green edge pad. I smoked a blue pad on a friends car.

My question to all the professionals and professional amateurs is: How do I treat the black plastic on the fender wells and the rocker panels?

I taped it all off with masking tape and realized to not use the "Duck" brand tape, it is horrible. Didnt stick and when it did, left residue.

What would you use to treat the plastic trim pieces. I want it to look good, not greasy.

Thanks in advance, I havent posted much, I do however enjoy seeing the classics that you all are working on. You all do such great work.

A pic of it would be handy

If it's textured, you can coat them with nyalic for years of touch free clearcoat like finish

Other types of trim can be looked after with polish and sealant or wax, acrylic jett trigger, trimonex and other non abrasive products.

I agree about the pictures, I will send them out this evening once I take some and get the car cleaned up. Raining now

Where can I get this Nylic? Maybe a search is in order as well.

Thanks and have a dry day!!!

Is Nylic a paint like substance? Here is the link for it I found...12 oz Aerosol Nyalic® :: Clear Coat Resin :: Nyalic

Steve - My friend has a Honda Element that has the same textured surfaces all round, he is currently using 303 which I keep telling him is a waste of money to use especially the way it washes off easily. There are a lot of dressing out there and I am leaning more toward Chemical guys VRP. May place an order for it soon.

My Mazda MPV has lots of black plastic. I treat the wheelwell plastic (when I bother doing it :o ) with ERV dressings, currently Autoglym's Bumper Care. No need to be really fancy about it though, most anything oughta work OK for that application.

For the other black plastic (grill, panel at base of windshield, sideview mirrors, etc. etc.) I use the Klasse twins. For the KSG, I find that the W-O-W-O method tends to give a more uniform apprearance. Perhaps the nicest things about this approach are a) it doesn't run or get compromised in the rain and b) it doesn't need redone very often.

It's a clear protective laquer that can be applied on anything for a clearcoat finish and protection. When I was testing it, I put it on some meguiars brochures and it gave them a wet look finish and hid all the swirls in them.

It has saved some front bumper trim on my 94 hilux that no polish could fix
