Mammoth Dodge vs. Optimum-

This is a lot of real-estate to clean up. This beast totally wiped me out.

Interior:

Vac

APC (6:1) mix on the seats, carpets

Woolite Water mix (10:1) to wipe down the interior

Spray and Gloss on the glass

Vinlylex on the plastic trim pieces

Exterior:

Wash: Optimum

Clay: (tops only) Optimum Poly Clay

Wheels & Wells: Poorboys APC

Polish/Wax/Seal:

Polish: Optimum Compound & Polish

I wanted to try something new on the polish step. I used Optimum Compound & Polish mixed, via my PC to polish out the paint. ‘X’ on the pad ½ compound, ½ polish. The results were very good IMO, but I had to switch between 2 pads depending on the paint condition. For the moderate swirls I used a 6â€ Hi-gloss constant pressure orange pad, and for all other areas that didn’t have as much marring, I used a 6â€ Hi-gloss green polish pad. I was able to polish out the paint in a single steps (i.e. didn’t have to go to a finish polish/pad after SMR). This saved me at least an hour.

Seal: I used OCW, while wiping down after my polish step. I had to OCW a few panels twice because they required further polishing. This is a time saver steps too, but you do waste a little OCW if you have to re-do a panel or area.

Wax: I used Poorboys QD+ & a finish pad. 1 or two squirts will do a few panels. I’m surprised that more people don’t use QD+. It’s a VERY good product, has good durability (5+ weeks), and it is sooooooo easy to apply & remove. I don’t think it took more that 30 minutes to QD+ & wipe down the truck from head to toe.

The bed was sealed with OCW & Gliptone Spray and Gloss.

Here are a few after shots:

Very Nice!

Interesting choice for protection. :waxing:

Thanks,

OCW & QD+ = something new to try. I started using QD+ this summer and really like it a lot for a quick coat of carnuba.

I like the look that OCW & DQ+ produced. Very clear with lot's of met. flake in the full sun. It will be interesting to see how it holds up.

Great job!

What do you use to clean the bed lining? I always wonder how you guys do the bed on those pickup?

To clean, I used optimum car soap & an old wash mitt. Then I hit it with a clay bar, which got rid of most of the surface scuffs. I sealed with OCW & Gliptone Spray Gloss.

Very nice detail MGM.

I have a few questions if you don't mind answering.

How bad were the swirls when you got the truck?

Also, opinions on how well the Optimum took them out.

Did the Compound leave any hazing?

Thanks for any info! Just trying to see if I want to give the Optimum a try. I have heard about half and half good and bad things, especially with PC use.

Looks like it turned out really good! The metallic really pops the the paint has a nice wet glow.

Does the truck have a plastic bed liner or a spray in liner? Mop and Glow works great on spray in liners.

The truck had moderate swirls/scratches, a few scuffs around the bed and on the doors. Nothing too crazy, but it definately needed a SMR. I think Optimum mix did a great job. I'm not a big fan of the polish via PC, but the compound I really like. I was able to mix them and it leveled the swirls and finished out nice (no hazing). I've had hazing via PC with the compound & an aggressive cutting pad, but a second pass with the polish takes care of it. Hope this helps.

Scott, The bed was cleaned with OCW and Gliptone spray gloss.
