Mammoth Dodge vs. Optimum

Me vs. a Mammoth Dodge!

This is a lot of real-estate to clean up. This beast totally wiped me out.

Interior:

Vac

APC (6:1) mix on the seats, carpets

Woolite Water mix (10:1) to wipe down the interior

Spray and Gloss on the glass

Vinlylex on the plastic trim pieces

Exterior:

Wash: Optimum

Clay: (tops only) Optimum Poly Clay

Wheels & Wells: Poorboys APC, Poorboys Wheel Sealer & BnB. The wells were dressed with some old cans of wheel spray that I had laying around.

Polish/Wax/Seal:

Polish: Optimum Compound & Polish

I wanted to try something new on the polish step. I used Optimum Compound & Polish mixed, via my PC to polish out the paint. ‘X’ on the pad ½ compound, ½ polish. The results were very good IMO, but I had to switch between 2 pads depending on the paint condition. For the moderate swirls I used a 6â€ Hi-gloss constant pressure orange pad, and for all other areas that didn’t have as much marring, I used a 6â€ Hi-gloss green polish pad. I was able to polish out the paint in a single steps (i.e. didn’t have to go to a finish polish/pad after SMR). This saved me at least an hour.

Seal: I used OCW, while wiping down after my polish step. I had to OCW a few panels twice because they required further polishing. This is a time saver steps too, but you do waste a little OCW if you have to re-do a panel or area.

Wax: I used Poorboys QD+ & a finish pad. 1 or two squirts will do a few panels. I’m surprised that more people don’t use QD+. It’s a VERY good product, has good durability (5+ weeks), and it is sooooooo easy to apply & remove. I don’t think it took more that 30 minutes to QD+ & wipe down the truck from head to toe.

The bed was sealed with OCW & Gliptone Spray and Gloss.

Here are a few after shots:

looks great. When using the compound and polish together did you work it into the paint, and was there a lot of dusting? Also what speed on the PC did you use.

Looks good. That is a lot of paint to take care of. My bud has a ram that is the same color. I like the look of Optimum on it.

-No dusting. I used a PC on 5-5.5 with some pressure on the PC. If you're familiar with Optimum, the working time was a bit shorter, but not by much.

How long of a work-in time did you use? As far as passes or time? Also was it pretty swirl free? P.S. what did you use on the tires?

I probably worked 10-15 min. per panel (some more, some a little less). Yes, it was completely swirl free, but there were still a few hairline scratches in the right lighting. They were leveled, but not removed.

The tires got BnB, rims got Poorboys Sealer.

Here's a shot of the bed that I forgot.
