making the switch zaino to s100, more questions

From the feedback in this thread I made the switch to s100.

I went to the Harley Davidson shop in my area yesterday and picked up a bottle of s100 sec and a jar of s100 wax, the best part it was 20% off. So far I have been using meguiar's 82 swp by hand to remove any swirls and then follow with s100 sec and then topping with s100. So far I am very pleased, although I have not looked at the car in sunlight yet. I still have half the car to go and hope to be done tonight, I am planning to go to a show on Sunday. Couple questions:

1. Any benefits to adding an extra layer of s100? Will this increase the durability and/or shine?

2. Is zaino z6 ok to use as a QD with the s100? It is all I have right now as I have used zaino for 2.5 years prior. I plan to order some pinnacle crystal mist, but the z6 does not seem to do anything to the shine, depth, or reflectiveness of the s100. Is there anything that I can pickup locally that will not make it a dust magnet but work better than the z6. The z6 did seem to work well not attracting dust as the car sat overnight in the garage and looked like I just wiped the wax off.

I am anxious to see how it will look in the sun when I am done, if it looks as good as it does under the flourescent lights in the garage I will be very pleased. The hood even looked decent with a 500watt halogen light on it, much much better than it did with zaino.

I would not use Z6 over caranuba. It can streak (oils and polymer), and since it's designed for use with a polymer system (these QD's are typically stronger) it might actually strip a portion of the wax.

What prompted the switch from Zaino? I have never tried Zaino, but I have heard from many people about how good it is. Did you have any problems with the product?

The thing that was brought in the past post is that he was experiencing trouble with mulitple coats.

A single of double coat of Zaino is still much more protection that S100.

Zaino is still is very very easy product use.

Excellent reflectivty.

Durable!

Most people have an issue with layering. It may well be that after 10+ layers, the finish is sooo slick that Zaino can't bond properly or that it takes additional time over and above the standard amount for it to cure correctly. I don't think Sal really invisioned people putting a coat on every time they wash their vehicle some here do. It's been mentioned before that after 3-5 coats, you start getting diminishing returns.

Going between S100 and Zaino is major change in some ways. If it's a look thing that you after, then sure, go ahead.

Ease of product use. I'd say both are equal except for Zaino's dry time where S100 is wipe on wipe off by that is negated by S100 needing to be applied every 3-6 weeks on average versus Zaino every 3-6 months.

I had been using Zaino, and Zaino only on my car since 2000, when I purchased it brand new. I have a silver Maxima, and the shine and durability from Zaino was excellent.

Fast forward to this spring. I had read all the praise for S100 here at Autopia so I thought I'd give it a shot, and if I didn't like it I could always go back to Zaino.

After applying S100 I was very impressed to say the least. The shine and slickness was just as good as Zaino, if not better. But the main difference was in the depth and richness S100 gave. The clarity is a notch below Zaino, but the liquid look is awesome. I've been using EF Crystal Pearl as a QD and it works great.

Since I was putting a coat of Zaino on just about every time I washed my car (it was so easy), I decided to apply another coat of S100 about every 2 to 3 weeks to see what effect it would have (just as easy as Zaino). Call me crazy, but after each coat the finish looks even better.

Come winter time I'll being stripping off the S100 due to the harsh New England winters. But I think this winter I'll be switching to Blackfire, since I tried it on my wife's car this winter and the results were great, with durability on a level or slightly above Zaino.

I've used Z6 on top of S100 before, no problems at all with streaking or smearing. As to whether it harmed the wax layer or not, I couldn't say, but it did leave a nice shine and a very slick surface behind. YMMV, but it worked for me on silver.

I posted the link to my problems in my post. Basically, I was getting very inconsistent results with it. It maybe I had too much on the car, I easily had atleast 50 coats of z5 or z2. I am still very happy with zaino and will continue to use it on my daily driver, but wanted to try something different on my trans am as I was planning to remove the swirls I had and that would basically remove the zaino also. I don't need the durability that zaino gives on the trans am as it is only a nice weather car and stored in the winter, so I went with s100.

If I shouldn't use the z6 is there anything that I can pick up to use until I order something else?
