make the paint grey?

Okay... I'm going to be doing a co-worker's black durango.

While we were discussing it another guy overheard us. Now he's one of those "knows everything about everything" kind of guys and has of course "experience everything"... so he has to come in and say something.

So he asks me what color the polish I'm going to use is. I'll probably have to do some PI-III MG for some swirls... although I haven't decided yet.

So I'm say "it's a white/grey color"... he tells me to be careful, because I can grind the polish INTO the paint and turn the whole car grey instead of black.

Is that even possible?

(I just did the *nods* "Okay thanks" response)

no. thats ridiculious. grind it into the paint? Like the paint is some sort of soft, plaible surface instead of a hard/brittle cured surface?

I use PI-III on my black car and have nothing but the best to say about it. Ignore the idiot, and go use the PI-III. You'll be pleasantly suprised.

thank you for confirming my sanity! :D

yes.. he said it like the paint will be soft and mix with the polish... cause he "worked at a body shop for a few years"... he's also worked at every other place on the planet apparently including a bank, a restaurant, he's been in Hell's Angel's ("been in"????), working in tech support... yeah anyway

I just wanted to be like "how the hell does that make any sense? mix with the paint? are you stupid?"

cause I'm sure 3M would be successful if they made polish that mixed with your paint and changed the color...

Following that logic, I guess we all need to be using only crystal clear wax and polish formulations. Maybe i'm delusional thinking my car still looks "black" after polishing it all these years? I better get a second opinion on that now I guess... *sigh*.

Damn, he's smarter than 3M and Meguiar's combined! I hope he's rich, considering all his technical acumen. :)

Seriously though-people like that are a hoot IMO.

(As long as you don't have to live with them that is).

So color is more important than the actual product name and use! The dude is an idiot, he got his hands on some super aggresive compounding polish and thinks every product is the same and he also couldn't remember the name of the product just the color.

Hey dont laugh. That guy knows what hes talking about. Last week I applied a clear wax to my truck and now I cant find it.

You should tell the military about this... I bet they could make good use of invisible vehicles :D
