Make sure you charge more for Cadillac's Escalade EXT

Or whatever that truck Escalade is. There is a ton of truck to wax, especially around the back window area. It is awkward, too.

Just a little heads up. Plan on an additional 15-20 minutes waxing and polishing one compared to the average crew cab pickup.

Hey it is the brother to my chevy Avalanche except they do not have cladding so there is more paint.

Did you clean under the bed matt and wax it?

What color? I like the pearl white.

The one I did was black. He had a bed liner, so no need to wax anything in the bed. It was brand new-maybe 3 days old when I did it. He specifically told the dealer not to prep it at all-not even a wash. Guess I have him well trained, eh?

No offense, but it looks 1000x's better than the Avalanche. All that plastic garbage GM tries to pass off as styling (notice how Pontiac uglied up the Matrix and renamed it the Vibe with all that cladding? Disgusting!) is really pathetic. --Sorry to be so blunt, I am sure you like your truck-but I really, really, really, really, really, really hate the styling. If the cladding was painted to match the truck it would look a lot better, IMHO. At least you didn't get the Aztec, which even AMC Pacer owners call the ugliest vehicle ever!

The instrument panel is really cool in the new Escalades. :up

I really like the cladding. I really like the Aztek, too, though, so that's just me. Strangely, I hated the cladding that GM put on the the Grand Am a few years back. I think it looks good on trucks and...Azteks, but bad on cars. Looks ok on the Vibe, though.

Anywahy, GM is going to please everyone this year. I hear that the Avalance cladding is going to be a $750 option, and that for $400, you'll be able to get matching colored cladding on the Vibe (matched to the color of your paint; not a contrasting color).

Let's just hope that Bob Lutz makes serious changes at GM...the Impala and Malibu are an absolute disgrace to the names (I used to have a 1971 Chevelle Malibu). Rumor has it that GM is going to import a Holden model from Australia-2 door sedan with RWD and the LS-1 V8 and it will be the resurrected Pontiac GTO-let's just hope they don't ugly up the interior the way Pontiac loves to do...ever see the interior of a Grand Am or Grand Prix?

My son loves the Avalanche, btw, but like pretty much everyone else, thinks the Aztec is the biggest turd any car manufacturer has ever laid. :D

It uses the same cheap, poorly textured plastic and ugly grey switches the Cavalier uses, only with more buttons and switches. In a $20,000+ car like the Grand Prix, it is unforgivable. I was seriously considering one when they first came out because of the available supercharged 3.8 V6--then I took a look at the interior and decided to keep my paid for Accord a while longer.

I am not a GM hater by any means, I used to bracket race a 1971 Chevelle, had a 1974 Z-28 (last year the L-82 was available in the Camaro) and I swapped a 455 into a 1977 Olds Cutlass Supreme (hell of a sleeper). Since the mid 80's, GM has put subpar interiors in all their cars-even the C5 Vette has some cheap looking interior pieces (the console for example), and the continued overstyling of the seats continues to astound me.

I hope Bob Lutz will bring around car like the Accord, Maxima, 3 and 5 series BMWs, and the like to show the designers what they should be aiming for.

I was behind one the other day and was like "That kinda looks like a space vehicle. Maybe we'll use it on Mars"

The Aztec is terrible!

Ever since the Aztec came out I look at the Honda CRX and all I can see is a little Aztec poop. The Aztec should never have made it out of the concept pile.

I don't know...I love the Aztek! I really wish I were indepedently wealthy, so I could buy a 2002 Aztek. (the original model, with lots of cladding). It would be my garage queen- I'd only drive it on weekends. Seriously! I know I am the only person on the entire planet who feels this way about the Aztek, but I do. :)

Cladding = less door dings and rock chips.

I like the Caddy EXT but not the front end.

Remember the Jeep Cherokee has/had cladding.

Hey Scottwax

I agree that some of the interior components need additional work or change. However there are a lot of good points to consider. 1. the seats are IMO some of the best/comfortable I have had the pleasure to put my butt in. 2.The steering wheel (leather wrapped) has a good grip and ergonomic spokes.

3. Lots of leg room in the back. I could go on but there are alot more good points about this car than bad ones and I am enjoying the ride so far.

What do you think webviper.

buldog-they could have made the seats comfortable without also making them ugly, IMO.

I also don't get the grey switches, especially for the electic windows and door locks-and why they would use them with a tan interior. I detailed an Olds Bravada with a tan interior and you cannot image how out of place the switches looked. Sorry, but I don't get it, it's like they are not even trying.

Bob Lutz wants to turn Pontiac into GM's version of BMW. So I think we'll see some decent styling out of them pretty soon.

Pics of new Pontiac's are circulating and looking at their recent show cars tells us that they are toning down their "in your face", over-the-top styling for something a bit more cosmopolitan and mature. Two words you could never use with Pontiac styling is "refined" and "classy". But we might see some of that now.

It'll probably alienate some of Pontiac's current customer base but seeing how bad sales are with some of their cars (which are only suitable for rental car fleets) I think a redo of Pontiac's priorties are long overdue. They could really be a shining star within GM.

I'm glad Lutz is doing what he's doing at GM. They're getting rid of their brand managers and focusing less on marketing and more on product. I only hope he sticks around to do some magic with Chevrolet, by far the worst division of GM.

Scottwax - If you like the supercharged 3.8 from GM, but don't like the Grand Prix interior, may I humbly suggest the Buick Regal GS? The ride is "cushier" with the Gran Touring Suspension, the seats are much softer, and the interior is overall less "sporty" and more elegant. Same power, though. :xyxthumbs (And less expensive than the Bonneville SSEI.)

Buldog - no offense meant here. Not trying to 'dis your ride. If it came down to the GTP and the GS, and I was trying to save some $$, I'd definately take the GTP.

I can't own a Buick, I'm not 65 yet (not even close!). Ha Ha! Actually, I wouldn't mind a GNX or an older GSX Stage II. Honestly, GM should have put the supercharged 3.8 in the Intrigue. Much better interior and exterior styling when compared to anything Pontiac has to offer-and btw, I think the Bonneville is hideous too.

Oh well, it looks like hope is on the Horizon. It is now definite that Lutz is bringing a sedan from the Holden Division in Australia to be the new GTO in 2003 or early 2004. Front engine, rear wheel drive and the LS1 V8 with at least 300 horsepower. Now if they could only guarantee Pontiac won't add that ugly grey cladding...
