M105 issues

Ok well I've had this M105 for about a month now and no matter how I use it, it will not work the way I have seen it work for other people. I use it in the sun and it turns out dusty almost instantly. I use it when in the shade and everything is cool to the touch and still the same results. I used it with a new Griots orange pad or with one that I washed and still either it turns rock hard on me or it will just turn to dust. I have LC pads (all colors) and I have Griot's Orange pads. All running on a flex machine on speed 6. Please help.

Did I just get a bad mix?

PS I hope this is in the right section.

Are you using the KBM?

yep for the most part I am. It happens no matter what I do. I can go slow or fast and dry pad of primed pad. If I use a detail spray mist on the pad it will just harden the M105 and make that thing just rock hard!!!!!

I once had a similar problem with another polish using a PC. Chemical owner said I was baking it by going with too much speed- not sure this is the same deal, but one pass over the product and it was rock hard and was dry to the paint- would not even move and was a pain to get off. When I slowed it down from the "6" to a 3, it was much better.

I am training next week for three days with Renny D. and I believe I'll get a lot of hours with 105 and excited about that. I'll see how I do and report if I learn something that has not been discussed or mentioned for you.

I had the same issue this past weekend trying to polish my truck (and was kind of expecting it to dry up quickly based on what I've read). It was my very first time polishing and I had my 7424XP on 5. I'll see if slowing it down some helps next time, but if you guys have any advice, that'd be great!

I bet you have the older version of 105. Does the bottle just show an icon for rotary and hand? If so you have an older version that will dust, mix with a bit of 205.

Things that can, IME, contribute to those kind of problems with M105:

Working too large of an area

Working the product too long

Spreading the product before turning on the polisher

Improper priming of pads

alloutdetailing- While I do like that Griot's orange pad, IMO it's not the best choice for use with M105. I'd use a "regular" orange pad or something else that's a bit more porous.

Also you might try turning the Flex down to 5.

When you finish working the area, is the pad still damp? Could you "keep going" a little more if you wanted to? I somehow suspect you're working too large an area for too long, but hey, I'm just guessing. It shouldn't be dry, let alone dust, when you wipe it off IMO, though different people use it differently. I always wipe it off while it's just a *bit* damp, and I use a spritz of #34 to help in that regard.

You might also run into micromarring issues if you overwork it to the "really dry" point...clumps of dried product on the pads, clogging the pad's pores, etc.

^^^

We'll that checks off one idea.

Cheers,

GREG

ps. you stated that its drys out quick when using in the sun? If the surface is warm, 105 is water based and will dry out quicker vs. oil based.
